Tech Rider?

How do I go about making up a tech rider? My band was asked to perform at a local college and I was recently contacted by the tech director to make one up with an input list and stage plot. I've always just shown up and figured stuff out on the spot. How precise do I have to be? Do I make a mock up drawing of the setup?

A fellow TB'er posted their band's tech rider a few weeks ago and I thought it was really well done.

Scroll thru this thread (an excellent read, BTW), and I think the OP put a link to it in one of his posts.

As jaywa said, the Disney World thread is an excellent read (I just went through it all: very interesting and informative); however, if you want to go straight to the rider, it's linked in post #58.

Thanks,
Pete

The stage plot and tech rider are two different things. The plot is what your stage setup and needs are, and the technical rider goes along with your contract to do the gig.

Your stage plot might be a drawing from overhead. That's often very efficitve.

Some things that go on your tech rider:
Proposed payment
Transport
Equipment they need to provide
What you will be bringing
Lodging
Additional events
Rehearsal times
Length of performance
lighting
merch
Catering
What the local manager will take care of, what you'll take care of
Misc: Comps, Dressing Rooms, Recording copy, etc.

Here's the email I received.

Hi,

My name is ****. I am the Technical Director of the SUNY Geneseo Student Tech Service. We will be working your event on September 2nd. **** asked me to contact you to get see what you needed as far as tech requirements go. If you could please send me a copy of your tech rider by the end of the week it would be very appreciated. I will make every effort to accommodate your requests, I will get back to you if there is anything that will not be possible.

Also **** told me that you use an in-ear monitor system for your show. How many band members do you have/ how many in-ear systems will you be using?

At this time we are unable to accommodate any special effects.

Please include: Input list, Stage Plot

Thank you

It's part of a welcoming back the students thing. I have no idea how big it's supposed to be.
