Techies! Hypothetical PC build

Do you use your computer for music or do you intend to do so?
Asus mainly uses a fairly bad VIA firewire chipset on their motherboards, often causing problems with fw interfaces. Gigabyte uses TI and also has those ultra durable versions available which also produce slightly less heat. Then again, you can fix get a TI chipped extension card for next to nothing.

Anyhow, as others have said, go for atleast four gigs of ram. I'd personally go for a quad core too while you're at it. Some games recommend a quad core already and running a DAW and virtual instruments is more of a pleasure with one.

really? hmmmm that's something to consider. I will be using protools rather heavily.

Before you blow your load on a video card, verify that the power supply has enough current to run the video.

Nowhere that I can see (on the Sapphire website, or newegg for that matter) is listed a minimum current requirement for the card. The power supply says it supports 32 amps on the 12v rail, which if true, should be sufficient, but I'd confirm the card req' first before settling on a power supply.

And confirm the current output on the Thermaltake site also.

Your highwattage power supply is useless if it doesn't provide enough current for your high-end video card.
