I don't understand bassists who don't utilize their pinky and go so far as to tuck it out of the way. If it works for them, great, but most of the time I see the player darting around the fretboard as a result of it.
1. (in Arnold voice) plucking like girly man!
2. No Pinky
3. 100% Pick! (sorry pick users, it just bugs me for w/e reason)
4. "Preferring a bowed neck"< yes i know a kid who does
5. Slapping at unnecessary times

1. People who slap/tap/double thumb all the time. You're no better than a guitarist-shredder who you probably critisice yourself. You're not cool, you're annoying. Even awesome guys like Ryan Martinie and Tim Commerford don't slap/don't slap all the time.
2. People who can play tripplets at 200 BPM and can do lots flashy stuff but can't hold a basic 12-bar groove.
3. Bassists who insist on being all over the fretboard, all the time. You're not a lead player. Stop.
4. People who rag on pick players/think they're better than pick players. You're not better than Anthony Jackson or Jason Newstead. Ergo, shut your mouth.

I hate when people manage to have an amazing slap tone even though when they slap it looks like their thumb hits the string right on instead of going through it and resting on the string under it.

People that debate the whole pick vs fingers thing. I personally am trying to figure out how to play with a pick, and in doing so, I am figuring out where it does and doesn't fit in. To each his own! I like both styles and will use both as I please!
Players who overuse slap to basically focus attention on themselves
Guys who ignore cleaning their bass(s) after they play them
Guys who buy ERBs for no reason and don't utilize them well

The two ends of the spectrum---pickstyle players who constantly use that horrible strummy technique up close to the neck, hitting all kinds of garbage half-muted strings while "rocking out", and alternately, fingerstyle players who wouldn't dream of using a pick but are convinced they can use their fingernails and sound "just like a pick". Bah. Rubbish.
So you are gonna tell me that Jaco was a bad bass player by leading the melody in Teen Town?
