hey guys

our band has a pretty crap PA, which we wish to replace with some better gear and use for monitoring.

ive been told to try these:

which we would run vocals and guitar through,(from the mixer) and then get some bass subs for myself, and if required, mic some drums.(also through the mixer..DI from my laney)

my question is this:

the mackies have a 2 way crossover, so can i run from them to the bass subs or do i need to get a seperate crossover?
im also guessing active bass subs, or passive ones and then an amp to run them?

forgive me if ive made any glaring errors, as ive only been playing a few years, and PA etc is a whole new ball game to me.

As kai_ski said, you will need an external crossover.
The Thumps have an internal crossover, because they have a 12" driver and a compression driver for highs.
The Thumps do not have a crossover out.

However, I think there is another option.
Instead of taking the main outs from the mixer to the crossover and then to subs and Thumps, which will work fine, you could use active subs and then run aux fed subs.

Aux fed subs means you will run the Thumps off the main out from the mixer.
Then, take an aux buss out from the mixer and run it straight to the subs. All the active subs I know of take a full range input, and lpf internally.
Aux fed subs allow you to only route signals to the sub which need to be there, leaving the signal going to the subs much cleaner.

Do you know which sub(s) you are looking at? Suggestions could be refined with that knowledge.

PS. Those Mackie Thumps are awesome speakers, great sound and absolutely a joy to carry.
