Differently, yes.
Better? Quite debatable.

I had a spinach salad with bacon and a nice vinaigrette dressing.
If that sounded cranky, it wasn't meant to be; but, I stand by the gist of it.

Mmm. Nice, but....I had a spinach salad with bacon and a nice vinaigrette dressing.
It didn't sound cranky at all, Chef.... but, you mentioned comparing a split coil with a.., erm..., split coil....If that sounded cranky, it wasn't meant to be; but, I stand by the gist of it.
LM*AOYou can't prove I edited the original.
1951 to 1956 is the original Precision single coil, slab.
1957 saw the split P with contoured body introduced.
1968 the original single coil slab was reissued as the Telecaster.
1972 the pickup changed to the big humbucker at the neck.
True. I just love the sound of the bass in this video: http://www.youtube.com/v/8hxn62ahfcEBut those single coil basses have a great sound that can work beautifully in a sparser mix, as they really fill out the bottom and can sing up high.

I have a 51 reissue, a57 reissue, and a 72 Tele with a DarkStar replacing the humbucker.
They're all fairly different from each other, and all quite nice.

In what year then were the alder body and rosewood board introduced?
Alder came in during '56, on Sunburst finishes.
Rosewood came in '59, replaced solid maple necks completely by 1960.
Rickett Customs said:I have a '57 in my shop currently (dated 1-57), awaiting a refinish and refret. Although '57 was the first year of the actual "P" pickup and the "modern headstock", there were tele style precisions still out there.
Keep us posted on the refret. According to Erlewine's StewMac book, you'll be tapping the frets out from the side.
Rickett Customs said:Nope,
Frets were already out, so I did not need to pull them. Not much chip out is visible.
