One of my kids bought me a set of Aurora bass strings in blue in 45-105. They thought it might match my peacock blue Peavey Cirrus 4. Which they do quite nicely!
This is my second try with Aurora's. My first try left me feeling kinda meh I guess? I'm usually not a fan of coated strings but wanted to try something new. I had put the set on my AVRI 62 Fender Jazz but didn't like the feel or the tension. I posted clips of them somewhere on here. But I though I would give them another spin. The Cirrus is a 35" scale bass so I was a little concerned about the tension effecting the Cirrus' slim neck but all was good and everything settled in nicely. I did notice some of the blue coating has already come off near the pickups. I'm guessing from my terrible pick technique? They sound pretty good. Just enough highs to keep me happy without adding anything from the preamp EQ. I'm still getting used to the feel. Similar to DR Neons but with similar tension to maybe a set of D'Addario XL's in the same gauge? Maybe a little less?
Anywhoo since the Cirrus is 35" i decided to tune it down a half step to practice with tracks from Thin Lizzy, +Live, The Smithereens, etc and just the half step adjustment has made the strings feel like spaghetti! I was really surprised given that the Cirrus is a longer scale. I think I've had them on for about a month and the strings still sound essentially like they came out of the package. I down tuned about a week ago. I have the Cirrus at Eb and my Jazz at standard. I may have to rethink my string and/or my gauge. I honestly didnt think it would be such a drastic change in feel. Anyway thought I would share.
