Testing Compressors: Cali, Smoothie, Empress, Diamond, Keeley, FEA, Darkglass, Doc Lloyd, Lusithand & more

Greetings, I have a question about Doc Lloyd Photon Death Ray and DOD Milkbox, any help would be greatly appreciated!
I own and love Milkbox, but lately it seems that every in every setting my P-bass (w/ SPB-3 pickups) gets too squashed.
I saw (but didn't hear since I can't find a single audio sample w/ bass) that Photon Death Ray is kinda similar to Milkbox and since it has a blend knob, could I get the same tone magic that Milkbox has, but without strong compression?
Or maybe I've started to dislike compressor pedals in general...

I feel like I could get some flack with this question.... But here goes.
I'm NOT a pedal guy, never have been. Been playing for 40+ years. Never anything more than a tuner.
I recently got in a good band, and it might be time to step up my game a little.
What would be a good entry level compressor?
2 years ago I tried a Walrus Mira. I'm not a tweaker. I'm looking for a set it and forget it.
I was a little overwhelmed by the 5 or 6 knobs.
I'm not looking to break the bank.
I looked at the TC SpectraComp and EHX Bass Preacher on Reverb.
What are some other simple comps?

Becos Mini, Keeley Bassist, Fender Bassman Comp all pretty simple. Becos Mini has a few more knobs, but is worth it.

I think the Lusithand Alma is my favorite easy to figure out compressor. Set the ratio where you like, adjust the compression amount, and blend some clean in if you like. It sounds great and glues your sound together. It tends a little dark but that was a feature and not a bug for me.
