TH500 and matching cabs

I have lived with the TH500 for a while now, getting to know the eq/drive settings(thanks to KJung and others) and I must say I really like it!
My cabs are GB U410 and TC RS 210. The TC cab is a very good match, the GB not so much. I think I will get another TC cab, but maybe someone have other suggestions. I like the Aguilar DB cabs, but for some reason the DB cabs are very expensive in Norway. almost double the price as feks EBS.

Anyone played the TH500 with the TC RS410?

Another TC RS210 would be the thing IMO. Great modular rig, and two of them stacked vertically would cover almost any gig you would have, assuming you don't need massive low end.

That RS410 only comes in 8ohms and is quite heavy. So, with a moderately powered head like the TH500, you would enjoy a more open low end and a bit more volume with the 4 ohm 2 x RS210 stack (and it won't break the bank nor your back!).

I'm pretty giddy about the TH500 match with the new Bergantino CN212 that is coming out, but that WILL break the bank compared to just adding another RS210.

Kind of strange mixing an 8ohm 410 with an 8ohm 210. Not that it would sound bad, but the drivers in the 210 would see twice the power of the drivers in the 410, resulting in the 210 still being the 'limiting' factor. It will be 'louder' in an absolute sense than the RS210 x 2, but probably not by as much as you would think, given the size and weight increase.

The coupling of the 2 x RS210 would give you a nice, healthy 5db or so volume increase (that is big) over the single RS210, and the coupling will result in a fatter low end than the single one. That being said, many dig the RS212/RS210 stack, and that would kind of sit in the middle of the two options we are discussing.

It seems that I can`t get friendly with 12"...have never tried the Bergs though..no Berg dealer in Norway.

I can also make my LM5 work with the TS210/TH500, so adding another RS210 seems to be the logical way to go.

The RS210 is just a wonderful sounding cab, especially with the sort of 'warm fat' voicing of the TH500.

Adding a second identical cab is the kind of 'no surprise' kind of way to get significantly louder while keeping the basic tone of the single cab you dig, while adding a bit more low end extension and punch IMO and IME.

The TH500 and my two CS basses are pure heaven...plugging in my Pino makes me smile always!

I really like my TH500 through a pair of RS210's. That cab has got some real mojo going for a relatively cheap 210 IMO! And two of them stacked vertically is a just a great gigging solution.

Having said that... I've got a bit of gas brewing and have been thinking about pulling the trigger on a CN212! I've always loved Jim's stuff and I think I will appreciate this offering as its very similar tonally (from what I understand) to the RS 210. I've always liked a light 212 cab but ended up selling my last one (tecamp) because it was too polite for my current needs.

If I go that route, I'll keep an Rs210 around for smaller home use etc. because you really can't go wrong with it. Ultimately, these are both great sounding rigs with the TH500... But with the CN212, I expect to gain more clarity at high volumes, more 'meat' and fatness throughout it's range (which I tend to hear in 12's) with a much bigger and tighter low end.

Maybe Ken will comment? ;) he knows all of these products better than any!

I think if you dig the RS210 (one of my favorite 210's) you will dig the CN212. The CN212 will be bigger down low and a bit more aggressive in the upper mids, but has much in common with the RS210 IMO... punchy, mid present. I would be pretty sure that a single CN212 could keep up quite well against two RS210's (or any 410 for that matter).

It really matches up nicely with the TH500, which was one of the heads I used in the field test. The big but controlled low end (i.e., lots of mid bass and lower mid 'meat', but not massively deep low end extended), and the very articulate midrange response really makes that amp sound both 'big' (like it always does) but also a bit more defined and articulate up top. Nice combination, and IMO those who dig the Aguilar DB cabs (I LOVE those DB112's) should like the CN12's also.

I am about to order TH350 and use it with RS210, based on recommendation by K Jung. I can easily purchase TC cabs in Croatia, Bergs and Aguilar cabs are not available in music shops as yet.

I wonder, what would be best match for RS210 (in order to use TH350 at 4 Ohm): another RS210, RS112 or RS212? I've read in several threads that RS210 + RS212 are great pair, but perhaps overkill for my needs. If I have to choose between 112 or 210, which one would you prefer?

I play Ash Nordy VP5 and Adler Metro HPJ 4 (favoring completely P pickup), both strung with flats.

I would get a second RS210. Great stack. The TH350 should sound GREAT through a single RS210, and should handle all but the largest gigs through the RS210 x 2 stack.

I always find it better/more predictable to add a second identical cab... it will give you the same basic tone of a single cab, with a bit more true low end, and a bunch more volume.

If it weren't TC's cabs in question, I wouldn't even ask. But it seems that they encourage mix&match of 10' and 12'. I recently saw on YT great performance by Esperanza Spalding in San Sebastian. She was using RH450 along with RS210 and RS212 and got really nice thick tone out of that combination. Now she endorse Aguilar, but that particular sound remains my favourite. I am very much looking forward to trying TH350, which would replace trusty LMIII+210p (almost too soft with alder HPJ, so I am looking forward to added grind of Aguilar).

Although I rarely post, I am a long time lurker around this forums. Two years ago I bought Nordy VP5 after seeing it (and hearing it) only in Ken's videos. Great purchase. Many thanks!

That is pretty much the only bass I play at this point. Glad you dig it!

Yes, that much larger 212 (it is the same width, but much deeper front to back) will give you more absolute low end. Many like that combination!

Esperanza continues to amaze! She is a rare talent!

Still sceptical about 12"s in general. I have owned a few and played a few 12" cabs, and it's something in the high-mids thats justnot there. I always find myself tweaking eq alot with 12"s. Worst stagesound ever was with 2 GS212 cabs. So do this new Berg bring something different to the stage?

Totally depends on the 12. Yes, the GS cabs are a bit scooped. The DB112's are not that way at all.. warm and mid punchy. The new Berg CN212/112 has GLORIOUS upper midrange bite.
