Hey there Justin,
Thought I'd share a fun little story of what happened last night. I've been in communication with a fairly big local (original) band after they put an ad out for a bassist. Last night was my first practice (and pseudo-audition) with the band, in fact! They're perfect in every way for me: emphesis on danceable bass riffs and layered guitars/vocal harmonies, all very cool and serious musicians. When describing the sound, I generally call it "Beach Boys mixed with Pavement".
Talking to the guys, I found out that the former lead singer (and primary drive of the band) had left to pursue an MFA. The bassist I may be replacing has now stepped up to lead vocals and synth. There was a period where they were considering ending the band, but then they listened to M83's newest album... and they were instantly inspired.
Now, they're searching for a larger ensemble band to do justice to their older songs while augmenting their newer material. Apparently I am a front runner because I listed you as an influence!
So, thanks again for making yourself so available on talkbass and thanks for having such a huge presence in the music industry!
