That darn hum...

i have a brand new fender standard precision, i have a monster cable, playing through a Gallien-Krueger 1001RB-II 700/50W Biamp Bass Head, and through gallien krueger 4x10 goldline bass cabinet, i dont usually have effects when i hear the hum i was lookin intobuying some new noise cancelling pickups cuz the stock ones on myfender aint cuttin it for me tonally anyways have never been a fan of fender but there p bass just get me

Get your wiring checked out first thing. If it's a ground problem that can be fix with a soldering iron for a few bucks. If that isn't the case, you could try a noise gate or a noise suppression pedal before you go buying new pickups. Then again, if you want new pups anyway, you might as well go that route.

New pickups may or may not solve your problem. I have had basses with humbuckers that didn't buck squat... the buzzed like a hive of bees.

The only sure cure I've ever found is an Electro-Harmonix Hum Debugger. It's not a gate... it actually removes the hum, although I admit I don't understand the magic that makes it work. I've yet to find a hum situation that it doesn't resolve. One of our guitar players got one for his Tele, which is the most buzzy guitar I've ever heard... and problem solved.

Some folks say it changes your tone, but I'm not buying it. Maybe the slightest drop in high end... easily resolved with your amp EQ.

So, if you like the sound of your pickups and a tech can't find anything wrong with your wiring, this little box will do the trick. The nice thing about it is it's just a stompbox, so no matter what bass is humming you can use this to fix it.
