"That" funky vibrato

Hi forum!

I'm something of a hack on the bass guitar, but I can usually get advanced technique stuff down when I've put my mind to it.

Now I really want to be able to do "vibrato" like it's done on hundreds of funk and fusion songs, for example throughout this song by Snarky Puppy:

I haven't been able to find much online about this technique, since I don't know if there's a special name for it or something. I read a tip about putting your fingertip directly on the fret and tip it back and forth across the fret, but when I try that, it just buzzes like crazy.

Any tips or links to YT vids are greatly appreciated!!

Cheers
Sven

Bumping this up. Does anyone have some good practice tips on how to work at this? Especially playing with vibrato in time? I really want to get some good exercises in my practice routine for this. I think I fall into the pitfall that Scott mentions as I always lose my time sheen I try to throw this in.

To me It's easier to do fast so start with a fast tempo and slow it down gradually.
