That guy from Nirvana

uhm, bassguy? yeah man, he had some wicked lines (notably "Lounge Act" and "Lithium") but like, listen to most of their stuff ... Smells Like Teen Spirit has one of the most boring ass bass lines i've ever heard, with so much room to make it more interesting ... most of Nirvana's stuff is pretty generic, bud. Not just the bass, but Kurt's guitar work as well .. power chords anyone? :o

One of his basses was a ripper, but he had a few others that are pretty bizzare looking. One is a jazz looking thing with a weird upper horn.. there's another that sort of resembles a thunderbird

the one that looked a bit like a Thunderbird was a black Gibson RD Artist, which he threw into the air and hit himself on the head with at the MTV awards- a bit dumb as those basses are very heavy (maple body and neck), and he was bleeding after. he was also using this bass for Nirvana's infamous appearance on UK show "The Word" doing Teen Spirit (at the beginning of which Kurt Cobain said "Courtney Love of sensational group Hole is the greatest f*** in the world").

nirvana is so ungeneric its not funny,
they created their own style,
therefore they're original, and i think Kurt is the best songwriter yet.

He used a Thunderbird, a Ripper (So Ive read) and a Fender Jazz Bass-....

its true he used a ripper, but he never used a fender jazz bass, he always had obscure looking basses, he used mainly gibsons and i think he used bc rich a couple times.

I think the guys name was Kris Noveselick or something. Anyway, I was listening to old Nirvana today and realized that this guys bass lines are about on the Michael Anthony level. Can the guy really play if he had too? What is the big goof up to these days? The only real memory I have of him is the big fool throwing a bass up the air and it landing on his head.

Does every bass line have to be a big fancy smancy bass riff????? I think he was pretty damn talented, not the greatest (becuz thats CLIFF), but he was pretty good, I happen to L\like some of theose "boring" root notin' basslines, like adam Clayton's for example,

P.S.--- I LOVE THAT CLIP OF KRIST THROWING HIS BASS IN THE AIR, AND IT COMING DOWN AND SMACKING HIM ON TOP OF HIS MELON, I CRACK UP EVERY TIME I SEE IT, (I WISH I HAD IT ON TAPE)

Bass isn't always flashy or even complicated sometimes. Krist just supported the sound of the band by playing less. Remember Nirvana consisted of mostly four chord songs and if Krist had played anymore it would have probably detracted from the main emphasis, the song itself. Nirvana still rocks and hopefully they'll release the supposed box set soon.
