Unequivocally no. It's a very bad idea.

In order to not make it look like garbage you're going to need some refilling and refinishing, and the cost of a job like that would be way more than is worth on that bass. You'd be much better off just getting a new bass.

I normally never record direct because I think it sounds awful, but this is my bass recorded direct. I play a Gibson SG Bass which is pretty much the worst bass ever for thumbstyle playing, but with a little leveling and EQ I can get this tone. There's no chorusing or flanging on it. If I can get this tone direct with a Gibson SG Bass, you begin to see exactly how incredibly easy it is to get a metallic slap tone.

Why is it that every tone you record, now even the ones you dislike, sound so good?

I'm a Mark Olson fanboy, Mark, I really am.

Thanks! My tone does keep getting better so I am making progress, I will say that, but I still have a long way to go.

The tone isn't all that unusual. I don't much care for the tune, but I like his interesting slap/tap combination... makes me want to try that at home!
