That new bass case smell

It's the contact cement that they use to glue in the plush fabric. Because it's soaked into the back side of the fabric, it will fume out through the front of the fabric for a long time. Everybody today uses the modern "safety" contact cements, which are not chemically dangerous. That's the vanilla-smelling stuff. A few decades ago, most contact cements used formaldehyde, which was hazardous; pretty much banned today.

Sniff away, if it pleases you. It won't hurt you. It's been tested and approved by the Gov't.
