*That* salsa bass tone

I've been playing salsa for decades, on electric, baby bass, and even my Rob Allen. I'm really knocked out by that modern electric bass tone (big, fat, and warm, but when slapped, the highs pop). Any ideas on getting that sound?

I'm going to leave this a little vague to hopefully spark some discussion. Maybe share your favorite bass tones in the genre and how you approach getting that sound?

I thought that Cachao was the man, but he was upright only…

…and that the Ampeg Baby Bass was an integral part of the sound. Not that well versed on the electric players.
