I used nothing BUT a P for many years--no matter what the genre. But it's funny, I recently had this same epiphany about jazz basses! That's all I wanna play now. But I can see flip-flopping back though . . . .

Then you haven't tried Thomastik-Infeld flats! Tension on those is as low as any string I've used.

if that's the P you that owned, IMO, it's no wonder you don't care for them.
My first bass was a '65 P-bass. The American Deluxe Plus in the picture sounded 57 times better.
