The All New Julie Slick thread

Another recent post on Julie's FB page:

Tobias Ralph played drums on the version of this song that appears on Le Fil Rouge, but this guy ain't no slouch. And check out Julie playing Sarah Anderson's violin (viola?) part during the second half of the tune.

I understand that there's a piece on Julie in the December print edition of Bass Player. Could someone do me a favor and send me a scan of the article? I let my subscription lapse years ago, and don't know where I can find an issue on the shelf around here.

Nope, nothing about Julie in the December issue (Steve Harris cover) or the Holiday issue (Lemmy cover). Perhaps it got bumped to a later issue?

Sorry, my bad. It's Bass Guitar Magazine, not BP. Tim Commerford is on the cover.

I might actually find myself in a Guitar Center later today, and if so I hope I can find a copy there.

Good news for our European friends: Dates have just been announced for an Adrian Belew Power Trio tour in February/March tour, starting in Israel and then snaking through the EU. (Nothing yet in the UK, but I'd be surprised if they don't add at least one of those.) Here's the itinerary so far:

And for those of us within traveling distance of Philadelphia, Julie's 30th birthday show -- featuring EchoTest -- has also just been announced, here:

Marco Machera will be there, of course, but otherwise no news on the rest of the lineup.

If'n you missed it, Julie has started a new subscription service through Bandcamp. In addition to getting access to her (and EchoTest's) back catalog via stream or download, it's worth the bucks just to get the first members-only release: the "Live in Chieti" set of EchoTest as a duo. (The whole thing is great, but the version of "1986" is truly inspired!)

Cool. Also, don't overlook the "to live" album, which I'll bet almost nobody has heard but which comes with the package: It's a completely improvised (as far as I know), balls-to-the-wall jamfest from a few years ago, with Brian Davis on guitar and Eric Slick on drums. Bass shred!

Got a package in the mail yesterday that went to all VIP subscribers: a cool tee shirt, a CD -- "Slick Mix Vol. III: Collaborations and Rarities" -- in a hand-decorated sleeve, and a tin of awesome cookies. I'm really liking this subscription thing!

So it turns out that, unsurprisingly, this "Slick Mix Vol. III" is WAY cool; it could easily stand alone as a "regular" album in its own right. It includes a couple of previously unreleased cuts from the (unfortunately short-lived) band Paper Cat (Julie, Eric Slick, and Robbie "Seahag" Mangano); a cut from Julie's recent duet album with Steve Lawson, Marinate; a couple of previously unreleased tracks with Mike Visser (of the band Springs); an assortment of other previously unreleased tracks (some labeled "Terroir B-sides"). I'll be listening to this a lot!
