The All New Julie Slick thread

So, they look like normal human hands, right? Four fingers and a thumb each, etc. Who knew?

BTW, the Marc Mennigmann behind this photography project is the "M" in "S.A.M." -- i.e. the improvisational-prog album featuring Julie from a few years ago. I'm guessing that he took his original pics of her when she was in Europe recording with him and his buddies for that project.

So this was cool: I found a place on the interwebs where I could stream "Radio Rock 106.6" out of Rome to listen to the EchoTest bit this morning. They did four tunes, including three new ones, and then did an interview segment. Of course, it was all in Italian, so I had no idea what anyone was talking about most of the time, but there were a couple of times when a question was translated to English for Julie to answer.

From that, here's the quote of the day, as close to verbatim as I can remember it:

"It's music from the heart. We don't think about it too much. Anybody's who's ever spent five minutes with us knows that we don't think much."

A while back I posted some links to videos of Julie playing with a Talking Heads tribute band, Start Making Sense, which she has done on multiple occasions over the last few years. Well, last weekend she joined them for a show in which the band recreated the entire film Stop Making Sense, both musically and visually. To "be" Tina in this show, she had to sing, dance, and play keyboards -- all things that she has long said she can't do -- in addition to (of course) playing bass. I wasn't able to make the trip, but the reviews I've seen have been stellar. There are a bunch of videos posted on Youtube, but unfortunately they are cell-phone recordings taken from what must have been the very last row of the upper deck. So far the only other evidence I've come up with is this pre-show photo (posted on Julie's FB page). Evidently they managed to straighten her hair, but not change the color. (Check out the film to confirm that the outfit is authentic.)

Here's hoping that there will be more photos and vids. I'm especially eager to see how she managed to pull off the Tom-Tom Club segment! I'll post links if and when I find any....
