I am posting this thread to inform the misinformed and uneducated dull minds of our youth. I see this time and time again, young bassist auditioning at a certain school, thinking it is "the answer". This particular school is supposed to have the greatest students and faculty in the world, however this is just not true. I was speaking to a friend the other day and we were discussing the abnormalities of the students that this studio produces. She said she was tired of "hearing about how these guys think they can win any audition just because of their studio"...I agreed. The arrogance and self congratulatory attitude of these students is quite aggravating. Be aware that this certain institution is no better than anywhere else and can be far inferior to other levels of higher learning and need I say, real Universities. These guys are not Ninjas, so they should not be feared as such. Oh youth and young ones alike, hear my plea! You should not put your eggs into the basket of hope and dreams of "limited selection". I think you will come to regret it as these are not the future of bass. I personally never was accepted into a program like this with such a competitive "tooth and nail" mentality that was placed on getting one "the spot". Broaden your scope, they have nothing more than anyone else has. Their blades don't swing more freely than anyone else. Please bear this in mind this audition season and maybe someday you may come to understand.

It is not very fair to target the Curtis bassists like that. I don't know them, but I applaud them in their achievement of getting in and really admire their talent. Please pull your head out of your butt and mind your own business, sir.
I'm pretty sure the people who are going through the actual audition process for studios and have invested their time and energy into finding the "right" place for them would know much more then some guy who insults everyone on the Internet.

I really don't understand where the hostility is coming from, In the end its not the studio that gets you the gig, its the individuals hard work. That being said, there is a list of schools where it takes more work than others to get accepted to. Take a look at the audition winners thread and you will see that players from quite a few schools are winning jobs and having success. Also Curtis kicks ass
Curtis has a good reputation and I'm certain they have a fantastic program to earn that sort of reputation.
But I, a young bassist, have stopped venerating and comparing myself to others bassists. It's fruitless--the most you can ever or will ever be is the best that you can ever be. Whether the world accepts this as "the best" remains to be seen, but as long as it's "your best" it doesn't matter.

This reminds me of the rants folk were giving the Guildhall in the 80's in London. I went to the RAM and I'm doing fine thank you very much!
