the anti honk.

yeah, they are and surprise surprise the P2's were the ones I was lookin at. Any people have experience with those?

I've used them, they suit me real well. They're well made and fully sheilded. You also have many options on what coil layout to pick and a few other things so one P2 can sound very different than another. Nordstrand also offers more than one choice in your shape.

What basses do you like the sound of?

I had a Carvin 6 a while back with the J's and I found them to be a classic J tone. I've used the Bart quads in a 6 string so I think that was a P4, close though. Lot's of options in the quads but I find they all sound a bit hi tech. I prefer the dual coils which to me sound a bit more organic and a bit more supportive than flashy. You can also get a single coil in the P2 shape.

If you like the sound of split coil J's, which I'm guessing the Carvin J's are, you might be real happy with the quad coils once you decide which 2 coils you like turned on. All 4 can get pretty beefy.

With 2 quads in a bass you have the options similar to 4 split coil J's or 2 P style setups which can be switched from regular to reverse P. Add in series/parallel options and you can fiddle with their tone for days.

I know this is an old thread ... found whilst searchin ...

But I noticed the same midrange honk on my IC6. I'm using DR Hi Beams through a Carvin BRX212. I really tend not to like EQing much (on the head or bass), preferring the natural sound to be good (I'm way past the return date, and the bass plays awesome otherwise). I usually end up cutting the mids 80% at about 500hz (just under the detent) with the on board pre. Boosting bass +50% and treble +20%. Running it through a compressor (BBE Comp currently). Its clean and crisp and gives me a reasonably ballsy MM impersonation with the neck soloed.

IconBasser: did you ever try the barts?

mmkay folks, yesterday I finally ordered a new neck pickup (just the neck, I never use the bridge pickups on any bass).

ended up buying the Bartolini P2 Classic Bass series pickup. Should be here within the end of the week.

I'll be sure to post some clips for y'all.

*sigh* now I have to pore through all wiring diagrams on the bartolini site so I can swap it in correctly...
