The Association Windy

That was used to great effect...I was laughing the whole time, my wife didn't understand why.
I'm a little older so I recall The Association's '60s 'video' for "Windy"...with the girl-next-door frolicking about town.
Then there's BB's Wendy.

Whoever was selecting the tunes for that show hit a lot of homeruns.
"Crystal Blue Persuasion" was a no-brainer...but The Peddlers' "On A Clear Day"?
I honestly thought The Peddlers were a new band playing in an older style...never heard of these guys until Breaking Bad.
I was lucky...found their albums & they are quite cool.

Oh about 30-35 yrs ago - went to see the Association at a mid- sized bar in the northwest burbs of Chicago.
My band and a handful of friends arrived and the only other people were a young couple in the back.
We got to talking with the band - telling them we were great fans and they told us they'll just play the songs that we wanted to hear.
We said no we wanted to hear them play their sets as they had them laid out.
Turned out to be a great evening and even tho they had a small turn - out they really appreciated that we were big fans.
They sounded awesome!!!

Sorry to hear that Larry Ramos has passed. This band was one of my favorites as they were the first big concert I attended. Villanova University Field House in October 1968. This band was very capable of pulling off the songs without any help on stage. They used session guys on the records, but they really could play the stuff.

Brian Cole was a good bassist and a fine singer. Jordan, his son, still plays with the current "oldies" band, I believe. I actually learned how to play learning these songs, among others. At my own first gig, as a beginner I was so proud to nail that Windy bass intro. A couple of years ago, trying out a Lakland Joe Osborn at Bass Central, for laughs I played that line. One of the BC guys says, "Great, now I'll have that stuck in my head the rest of the day".

At Villanova, they used two Shure Vocal Masters and mostly Fender amps (couldn't see the bass rig, but it may have been an Acoustic 360). As far as I could tell, no amps were miked. The place was packed and they rocked the house.

You know I've saved the episode of Breaking Bad with Windy/Wendy on my TiVo and have played back this song & video probably 50 times because 1) it's the best cleanest version of Windy I've ever heard; 2) Whoever mixed it for Breaking Bad massaged the bass to put it way up front and in your face; 3) Because it's one of Breaking Bad's best video montages.

If you like bass and you have a good audio system with subwoofer, BB's version of Windy is amazing. :)

I read somewhere on the interwebs that Larry Knechtel played bass on it.

I agree. The fidelity is much better than the original release mix.

About 15 years ago, I saw The Association (with a few original members left in the band including Larry Ramos) at DelGrosso's Amusement Park in Tipton, PA for a free concert. They were very tight and polished. I really enjoyed the show and the fact that they were very entertaining as well as told the stories behind the songs.

Here is the current version of The Association website with original members Jim Yester & Jules Alexander.

The current bass player is named Del Ramos.

Those who lived through the '60s know that "Windy" and "Cherish" were two of the most overplayed songs in the history of radio. I always liked "Mary," and enough time has gone on that I've long ago been able to appreciate the great pop craftsmanship of "Windy." The Association seemed very lame at the time, but they did have some fine vocal skills and arrangements.
