You have to plant the seeds of an idea in their head and let them come up with the idea themselves.
A lot of people seem to prefer “feeling good” to honesty and truth. Evidence unfortunately doesn’t always change people’s minds, not when you’re told something as a child before you had the cognitive ability to understand it.
