Double Bass The bark that bites!

Hello. I am new here so please be patient.

I just bought a cheap chinese plywood DB and am getting comfortable swinging on it. I have found that when I get agressive with the open A I get a bark out of this thing. If I place my foot against the back of the instrument or have my son place his hand on the front a couple of inches above the bridge the bark goes away.

Is this something that can be tuned out with the sound post? Is it just a problem because I bought a cheap bass? Is it inherent to the instrument itself and I should not get that agressive with it?

It seems to sound ok at that level of attack everywhere else, just around the open A has the bark.

Thanks for your help.
