The Bass Company

I'm interested in the MM bass, but not until they change that goofy pickguard! It's worse than a real SR5!

I believe that you're thinking about the new single M series, as the [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] do not have pickguards. Right now both the AP-400MM and AP-500MM are out of stock, but they should be available sometime in the upcoming weeks.

I so hate you!!!! :bawl: :D :crying: :hiding:
Let me know how that sucker sounds. Hopefully they will post another one of those 5 string jazzes or soapbars.

If you're looking for something that's not currently posted on ebay, you can always give TBC a call and order directly from them. Info is on the [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] page of their website.

Hello everybody!

I've been scouring the net for a long time in search of a recent thread for people interested in our basses, and it appears that I've finally found one!

My name is Darrell, and I've been The Bass Company's bass tech for the past six months. I'm post-lightwave, but have been around since just about the beginning of our acquisition/operation in China. I'd be happy to answer any questions anyone might have concerning our basses. I'm also in direct contact with Jack, so I'll be able to get answers for any questions that I can't answer myself. In fact, I believe I've spoken/corresponded with some of you already. :)

I'm very glad I found this thread, and would very much appreciate input from anyone who's bought one of our basses. I feel like one thing that's really keeping people from trying our basses is the lack of current reviews available on the net, so we're looking for people to give testimonials as well as reviews. If you're interested and would like to be on a testimonial/review page on our website, drop me a line! My e-mail address is beezle68 at yahoo.com

Thanks!

OK, I'll ask you. I'd love a single M bass, but what's with the pickguard? really, you can't be serious...

Honestly, I was initially sort of put off by it, too. Jack does all of the conceptual design, so you'd really have to ask him. I think the idea was to do something that set it apart from the rest of our lines in the way that we wanted to: by defining it as a lower-end version. It sort of came across to me as a compromise, but there are a lot of people who like it, so what do I know?

Darrell..welcome to talk bass. I am waiting for the second i can order a JJ or MJ jazz 4 string most are out.... any ideas on when they will be in? I spoke to a local dealer about you basses today and he went to the site ..he was shocked at the specs , woods etc and called and left a message right then and there for info on becoming a dealer...there are none in my state. i would love to give a field test as soon s i can get the $$ to get one. You can see on this site what Tbers did for SX and Rondo ...if your basses hold up to the claims they will be the talk of this and many sites and satisfied users to come.

As someone who will soon be in the market for my first "good bass", I have to say I'm extremely interested in the supposed value of these basses.

Darrell, I think I speak for everyone here when I say that absolutely any details would be appreciated. Tell us everything you know about the instruments!

How much do they weigh?
I'm also interested in how the chambered body effects sustain and tone.
Thanks for your availabillity here, it is greatly appreciated.
I'm certainly glad to be here! Our basses range from around 7 pounds all the way up to around 9.3 pounds. Out of our shipment due in any day, the average bass weighed a little over 8 pounds. Out of 75 pieces, only 3 were over 9 pounds, and approximately 25 were between 7 and 8 pounds. I hope this isn't too confusing or excessive! As for the chambered bodies, several customers have said that it gives the bass a bit of an acoustic effect, as well as increases sustain. But most everyone agrees that it definitely gives the basses a signature tone.

Thanks for giving us some exposure! Unfortunately, we don't sell to dealers anymore--we only sell direct to the customer. To summarize a long story, we were selling to dealers through sales reps, but the basses were ending up at around $700-$900 after markup, not to mention the fact that we had to tell everyone who called us to go to their local music store and order one from us. This wasn't working out for us OR the customer, so we cut the dealers and reps and decided to go direct, which drastically lowered the price. We are getting in a shipment either on Friday or Monday, and it does include a few AP400MJ. We currently have a slew of JT400JJ in stock and ready to order.

Just in case anyone doesn't already know, our 4-strings are all $399, and our 5-strings are all $499 (with the exception of the "M Series", that start at $299 for 4-strings and $349 for 5-strings). Of course, our B-stock basses are sold at a discounted price. If you're interested in ordering, you don't have to wait for what's on eBay--you can call us directly at 866.722.7797 and we can tell you what's in stock. A lot of our 5-string stuff is out of stock right now, but we have plenty of JT-400JJ.

If I seem like I'm trying to push our basses too much, be sure and tell me. I'm really trying to be here as a source of information, not a salesman. :)

Haha! I'd love to, but it might irritate some people. If you give me a hint as to what you'd like to know, I'll probably indulge you with an over-the-top rant. That'll teach you! :)

Hi Darrell, this is warnan from China. do u have a dealer in China?
can i order direct from ur dalian factory?
Hello Warnan

We were just recently approved to ship from our factory in Dalian, so I believe that it's possible. If you give me your information and what you are interested in, I can pass it on to Jack, or fax it straight to the factory and we'll see what we can do.

Darrell, Do any of the bass's come passive? I am a passive bass guy but really can dig active again...I really would like a bypass switch in case of a onboard problem in the active system so my bass won't go down...can a bypass be added if not stock? Diggin those JJ 4 stringer...gosh gotta get it soon!

Darrell, Can I order a M Series with the "other" Pickguard? Just wondering I LOVE the J Model Pickguard, and The one thats on the M series may stop me from ordering it and waiting to oder a J.....BUT I have a J-bass and would like to get your M series....hence the pickguard request :)

Well I for one LOVE the pickguard for the M series, Dont change a thing! I was wondering if there are actually two different colors of pickguards still available? Is there any plans for a six string in the works soon, or even different models, exotic tops? I love the chambered ones.
