Without a doubt: my '72 J. I've spent so much time playing this bass, it's staying with me forever. Can't find a recent pic, so only this one.

My 78 Ray, in my possession since 1983. Many other basses came and went.
My wife says I can't sell my pink Lakland JO5. I wasn't too fond of the East J-Retro preamp in it, so I converted it to passive since I have to keep it. I suppose I'll keep my Fodera Viceroy, too.
I have four - a wretched black 1982 Harmony Marquis plywood thing, a 1987 Ibanez RB-800 in Fountain Blue, and a natural Peavey T-40 & T-60. Honorable mention to my 4003W - I got lucky and got an instrument with phenomenal tone.
Pretty simple. My '77 P bass. It's been with me from day 1

My first refin job. MIK Squier plywood body refinished in Reranch Surf Green, AllParts J neck with Hipshot Ultralites, and details added to make it an early 60s clone. Not worth a lot of money in parts, but I will never sell it.
I'm a member of the I need a P and a J club, yet also OCD so I need a spare. I have a lot of keepers but these would be the lifetime ones at present.
Not my first bass (First bass was an upright I traded away). Was first bass guitar.
Cheap Japanese short scale with heavy mods by me (internal active electronics added
to include vibrato and faux Leslie circuit). We've had more miles together than I care to count.
Transformer was because pickup died and I rewound with finest wire I had...NOT fine enough! So transformer raises impedance and output!
Today electronics are FAR too noisy to gig with but how could I ever get rid of her?

Bought is '87 for $400, it's an 83 62RI Jazz Bass. My #1 since then, with the exception of a brief period in the early 90s when my Rick took the #1 spot for a couple of years.

Thanks for the replies and pictures everyone, I've enjoyed reading the responses. I've added some pictures of my RBX 250 to the first post now.
My American Precision Deluxe with a Leo Quan Badass in translucent green and maple neck. The pickups and 3-band pre have a huge range of tone, the bridge pickup is back further than the typical J location and sounds fantastic when blended with the split humbucker. The tuners are also light weight and accurate, stays in tune really well.
I bought this at the time time for a P-bass tone for a specific band I was in back in 2003... I've got it setup with low action, no buzz and is as comfortable as an old favorite t-shirt. Doesn't get a ton of play these days, but always feels great when I pick it up for a while... Just a classic Anerican icon, like a classic Detroit muscle car.
I also bought it's matching little sister, an American Deluxe Strat with a rosewood neck about 5 yrs ago, so I have to keep the pair. I modded the Strat with some amazing Seymour Duncan's so it's sounds amazing as well. (I'd post a pic of the Strat but don't want to offend anyone)
If I ever come across a Jazz or a 5'er with the same green finish I'm sure I'll grab them as well to finish out the collection.
My son won't let me sell either of them, and I will probably give them all to him some day.
My Thumb 4 BO (Ovankol) and 5 BO custom shop (Bubinga) will never go either, they are my daily players and I waited too long to get them both...
For me, they are the most comfortable and versatile basses I've owned, so will keep forever. I have many others that would go first.
