I don't know, it certainly doesn't inspire me to get better. On the contrary, it would push me to give up entirely if something doesn't come easy. Because if it's not easy, it must be impossible, right? So, why grind it out?

I'd say you missed it.

Nothing is hard about music. All of the pieces are easy. It's trying to look at the whole of everything you haven't learned yet that makes it seem hard. That's impossible. But one little step, one new technique or practice is easy.
