The best bass you've ever played.

right now my MIM Jazz is destroying my MIA Jazz in playability but not quite in tone.
After a pro setup I am pretty sure the MIA will be pure sex on bass but until then...

Ive played a Gibson T brid, EB stingray 5, warwick corvette. and MY LTD JM 500 (worth just a little less than the vettes)

My 1982 Steinberger L2, which is now retired, was the best bass I've played. It was my workhorse bass from '82-89', never failed me - EVER!!
One footnote, my '08' MIA Fender Jazz V is the best current bass that I've played and sounds great.

A handmade Bacchus. I played 3 of them a few days ago (I'm in japan atm for a holiday) and it smoked anything else I've ever played. But I couldn't afford it due to the exchange rate... Fighting GAS right now 
The best bass I've ever played was a USA Lakland Joe Osborne 4-string. I'm a hardcore Warwick person, but that bass was just jaw-droppingly toneful and beautiful!
One of these three: Lakland JO5, Jerzy Drozd Obsession Excellency V, or Sadowsky Modern 5-24. Honorable mention goes to MTD 535-24 and F Bass BN5.
I have no idea about how it sounded because I was in Guitar Center and all I could hear was 12 year old's "shredding" but the nicest feeling bass I've ever played was a EBMM Sterling. My favorite bass I own is the SX fretless Jazz I just got. Honestly I like it better than my SUB. Don't get me wrong the SUB sounds great, it's like a P Bass with more balls but the SX Jazz just sings. Love it.

I got sold this one because I really don't play 4-strings but this is the nicest playing, best feeling, best sounding bass I have ever played in my life.
To this day, when I think "Jazz Bass", this bass (complete w/VTC and DR Hi Beams) is the tone I hear in my head.

Immediately without having to think about it, Warwick Streamer Stage II. Completely owns all. It was a fiver even, and I strongly disliked fivers at the time.
My G&L L2000. I kind of stumbled on it some years ago at Guitar Resurrection in Austin, TX. At the time, I'd had enough of fretted bass and was looking for a good instrument to learn fretless on. And there it was on the rack on the wall.
It's a 96 or 7 (one of the last 3-bolt neck models), swamp ash body with clear finish and the #8 unlined fretless neck. It's everything you could ever possibly want in a bass - a jazz bass suped up with all kinds of improvments by Leo Fender himself.
I still have it; I'm learning Tull's "Living in the past" on it right now as a matter of fact.
My L2500 is a close second, but the L2000 really has the edge as the very best I've ever played....

Hmm... that's a tough one as I own a few. Have a look 
OK, if I have to make a choice. The best bass I ever played is my Oly White 60 Precision on the far left side. It's without a doubt the best bass I've played or owned. The thing plays like melted butter and even with all the mods I've done over the years, it still nails that old school P bass tone. With RotoSound's, it's the total 70's rock growler. Toss on flats and we're talkin Motown. Woody, pure, and round.
Second choice is the black n maple 08 MIA Precision. That thing has action that's sick low, plays clean everywhere and just plain kicks butt. The tone even with the stock Fender strings is everything you expect from a modern P bass. Punchy, with strong mids, and a nice fat bottom.
The 08 62RI and the 72 Telecaster II mudbucker are nice too, but they just don't get the playtime of the other two.
I used to have a 74 Ricky 4001 in Mapleglo and that WAS a great player, but alas, money issues forced me to sell it
