The best combo from Ampeg

Amprg B15R Just does not have anywhere near the tone or the old B15N. The original flip top and is soooooo expensive for so so tone. The two rockets are where it is at with Ampeg combos B100R and B200R The difference being the 200R has more power and a tube in the Pre amp section. But the B100R does sound like it has tubes in it Nice warm sound and Not too bad on the pocket and better if you can find a used one.

The B-15 all tube Portaflex or better known as "flip tops"
rule for all tube vintage goodness. The B-100R is a tone
machine in its own right and the now discontinued B-2
15 inch combo was the solid state SVT 350 head wrapped
in combo clothing.
I'd love to try the new B-200R but no one has them
in stock. I've always liked Ampegs combo amps and I gig
with an B-2 combo for smaller gigs and it sounds good.
I also remember they had a B series combo that was fully
biamped in one tall combo package. In general Ampeg combos
are a pretty good deal imho.:)

+1 to the B100r-- a great amp. But don't forget its little brother the B50r. I think it won a BassPlayer shootout several years ago. I've used mine for URB and electric and it sounds great with both.

Finally, nothing compares to the B15n. I've got a '65 and it sounds just like it should--warm, round, full and buttery.

I owned an Ampeg B15-S Portaflex with an Altec 421 speaker back in the seventies and it was without a doubt one of the three best sounding amps I have ever heard. The other two were the '67 Sunn 200S and the '70 SVT of course these were not combos to say the least. By the way, I am familiar with the B15-N and it was great but I much preferred the B15-S.

I had the BA 500 for a while, I liked it alright. Actually, I really liked the combo alot-thought it was very versitile and would have loved to pair it with a 15. I had some quality control issues so I sent it back, and I've switched to svt4pro and 4x10hlf + 1x15.
