The Bidet Thread

Bidets are sloppy. You need to look into the Japanese washlets. Those are a blumpkin shy of nirvana.
There's something in my brain that feels that articulated plastic and remotes would represent a hygeine issue in this area. The cleanup on the standard porcelain seems like it'd be a lot more effective.

I did enjoy their website though.:hmm:

wait, when I was in France, I....I....you mean that WASN'T a water fountain!???

My dad is a plumber, back in the 80's him and his apprentice were working on a ryan homes sort of deal. The apprentice runs downstairs and is beaming: "Bob you'll never believe this they have this little water fountain in the bathroom!"

When we went to Orlando many moons ago our hotel had one and I was young and it was quite a shock to see what it did haha. I was just in Belgium but didn't run into any there :(

The washlets in Japan are high tech. Water temp control, angle adjustment for different genders more jet settings than a dial a jet shower head, and there many that talk to you in nice sexy japanese chick tones. Many of the toilet seats are heated too. You'd be better off importing a whole toilet unit from Japan than just a glorified seat. Check out ToTo. Some of the best poos I've had in my life have been on ToTo's.

Bidet's are kind of like sitting on a water fountain. Nothing really precise about them, and you don't really feel all that clean afterwards, but rather you kind of end up swampy and uncomfortably wet. The Japanese washlets are precise. You simply use a little dab of toilet paper to check and dry up.

Maki speaks the truth. The Japanese hit it out of the park with the toilet seats.

I'm buying some before I leave here, for my next house.

Hey Pacman, Toto has a factory in Atlanta and the high end plumbing
supply houses carry the washlets. No need to drag it halfway
around the globe, they got them here.

My house is Toto equipped, but unfortunately, not
with the washlet. They make a good product and the 1.6
gallon Toto's flush better than the old 5 gallon Kohlers I had,
so the hydraulic engineering is top notch. Good company,
great products.

I have always thought that bidets were a poor substitute
for daily hygiene.

Hmm. Takes notes. I'm heading to Atlanta next month. Might need to figure something out.

Back to the OP, the retrofit really depends on the location of
the supply line for the toilet and where the drain lines run.

Also, it depends on if the underside of the flooring is accessible. A second
floor installation might make remodeling a lot more involved as
opposed to a first floor with an unfinished basement.
