I like it as well, but have opted to order a clear pickguard from Chandler/Pickguard Heaven. The reason is because my wife does art work on the side and she plans on doing a custom abstract in watercolor that I'm going to put beneath the clear guard. It'll be a couple of weeks before I get the pickguard though. I can't wait.

Looks good! Funny, the white pearloid pickguard looks much better on the sterling silver finish than I expected it would.

(I still want my future 6HS to be black pearloid on sterling silver, though :p )

The pickguard is actually vintage white pearloid which to me looks better on this bongo than the white pearloid would.

I'm sure if there's any of you over at the EBMM forum you've seen what the knuckleheads have graciously nicknamed for me the "Stealth Bomber"!

And it is impossible not to smile while you play it! :D

Hi fellow Bongoers

I was thinking of stringing my 5 HS with flats to give it a shot. Have some of you do this?

I tried flats (D'addario Chromes) on a Precision once a while ago and didn't like it that much. I guess there were too much tension.

I play in a Roots Reggae band and in a (post/dub) rock band.

What strings would you advise trying?

Chromes are actually very good strings, but with flats, you should probably get a thinner guage so the tension doesn't change.

For instance, if you play .105- .50 roundwound
buy .100-.45 flatwounds

All for a Silver Bongo of course

I'm leaning towards the silver pearloid (The middle one)... if I don't like it I should be able to swap it for a white pearl, they are pretty common.

The white on silver almost takes away from the silver a bit? I dunno.

BUT... heres some research I just did... not sure if I like this look

Here is my silver bongo...I really like the pickguard on it...the only reason I'm replacing it is because my wife wants to do a custom piece of artwork that I'm putting under the clear pickguard I ordered.

This is mine currently...I love the way it looks.

Looking forward to checking out the custom artwork your wife does for behind the clear guard....
Sounds very cool. Share pics once it is completed. :)
