I owned a fretless Egyptian Smoke HS bongo for about 5 minutes. I wonder if that's it? Can't be too many of those in the wild. Nice bass!

Recent Bongo convert, here. I don't know why it took me so long to get one of these. Several years back, I played one in the local Guitar Center, and loved how it played, how it sounded, and the look and feel, too. The tone is unreal. The ergonomics and playability are perfect. They're quirky looking, which fits me perfectly. I really wanted one, but at the time I just couldn't justify the expense. The experience must have lodged itself in some deep recess in my psyche, though, gnawing quietly away at my resolve until I just couldn't resist anymore. A few weeks back, I knew I had to have one. So I got two. 
The blue one is a Neptune Blue PDN 4HH that I scored off the Classifieds here on TB. None of the photos I have of it even come close to doing it justice. The wood grain showing through the trans finish is just unreal.
The black one is a really nice, almost pristine 4H that I found on the Guitar Center used site. I'm really digging the antique pearl guard against the black. Very classy. And tone-wise, it's a very different beast than the 4HH. Killer.
They're both serious players; and hard to put down. I still love my P-basses, but these Bongos... dang.
