I got exciting news today... My band got invited to do a pregame concert for a local minor league baseball team's "Faith and Family" night in August... We are checking our own schedules, but I think we are gonna do it, and I am excited... more later when I know more...

Very cool. Our own Reading Phillies have these events and they are always fun. It is kind of funny that it's like baseball used to be when I was a kid. The crowds are just as enthusiastic but no hooligans. You guys will have a blast!

I agree!

I play with the Sunday morning worship band, but I also have another band that plays for the youth and the college (when they ask us).

Same here. I'm 17 and I play in the morning worship band as well as the youth band on sunday nights. In the Fall I'll be attending Cornerstone University, so I hope to be joining one of 3 praise bands there. Rock on for Jesus!! :bassist:

Our Church had worship leader/songwriter Andrew Ironside do a workshop this past saturday...Andrew is associated with Hillsong Church in Sydney and has been in ministry for nearly 27 years...

The first session on Saturday was open to all the churches in the area and he discussed what worship is and what is required of worship leaders (those participating in leading the congregation in worship: musos, singers, sound men, etc...)

He spoke on what he called the "ACE" principals anointing/character/excellence...after this session, I felt both encouraged and like I've received a big, Godly kick in the pants, as well :)

In the afternoon/evening, he worked with our worship team: first off, he showed our sound men about what is required for good EQ and compression techniques and we did a top/down setup of the sound system...it took over two hours to EQ the main board, the instruments, and the mics of each individual singer/worship leader....This was well worth it, as the singers sounded completely different once this was done...

In the evening, we worked on some music and teamwork and listen...Andrew is learning to play a wooden American Indian flute (he's already quite good)...He played Amazing Grace on the flute with a big 2 second delay...absolutely amazing...

On Sunday morning, worship was great (not fantastic, but the sound was)...and then when Andrew came up and played Amazing Grace, he played the first note on the flute and my tears just started flowing..a great experience...

Our worship team, while not what I would ever called "technically competent" are developing plenty of character and comradory and it's really showing ...

I encourage every worship team out there to at least once a year, get someone in to work with the team in a mini workshop to develop "worship"...:) ...

Happy to see this thread. I play bass with the worship team at Redbird Community Church in San Antonio. Great teaching and worship in song and a fun, loving local body of believers.
I switched from guitar to bass a few months ago and found out I really liked playing the bass. God is full of surprises! I'll be interested in watching all the posts on this thread.
Grace and peace to all here.

Very new to the church, I was Baptized last August. I've been a musician since the 70's, all heavy metal and the sort, all around bad guy until last year, gave up the 2 5ths of tequila a week. Started going to a church that I really love but my wife was speaking to the pastor from her mom's church and found out they needed a bass player for their worship group, well I was volunteered. Since being reborn, so many wonderful things have happened to me; my general outlook on life, a great new career, I get along with everybody I meet. I think that this opportunity happened because I need to share what happened to me with others and music is one way to do that. I may be asking for help with different songs since the only thing Christian I know is a heavy metal version of Amazing Grace!
