Our Church had worship leader/songwriter Andrew Ironside do a workshop this past saturday...Andrew is associated with Hillsong Church in Sydney and has been in ministry for nearly 27 years...
The first session on Saturday was open to all the churches in the area and he discussed what worship is and what is required of worship leaders (those participating in leading the congregation in worship: musos, singers, sound men, etc...)
He spoke on what he called the "ACE" principals anointing/character/excellence...after this session, I felt both encouraged and like I've received a big, Godly kick in the pants, as well
In the afternoon/evening, he worked with our worship team: first off, he showed our sound men about what is required for good EQ and compression techniques and we did a top/down setup of the sound system...it took over two hours to EQ the main board, the instruments, and the mics of each individual singer/worship leader....This was well worth it, as the singers sounded completely different once this was done...
In the evening, we worked on some music and teamwork and listen...Andrew is learning to play a wooden American Indian flute (he's already quite good)...He played Amazing Grace on the flute with a big 2 second delay...absolutely amazing...
On Sunday morning, worship was great (not fantastic, but the sound was)...and then when Andrew came up and played Amazing Grace, he played the first note on the flute and my tears just started flowing..a great experience...
Our worship team, while not what I would ever called "technically competent" are developing plenty of character and comradory and it's really showing ...
I encourage every worship team out there to at least once a year, get someone in to work with the team in a mini workshop to develop "worship"...
