hope y'all had earplugs in thursday evening. NONE of our singers showed up! so it was up to us musicians to lead the congregation in song as well as music .... and let's just say that singing is not my forte. it isn't even my pianissimo :)

oh, and did i mention i was playing a fiver for the first time at a service? yikes! i certainly made really joyful NOISE to the Lord!!!!! :D

welcome to our newcomers! and thank you all for your stories of inspiration and of struggle. you all are in my prayers.

Hey everyone, I haven't been around much since I introduced myself way back here http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showpost.php?p=6389170&postcount=43. Life gets busy sometimes.

I just wanted to share whats been going on with all you fine folks.

Well just before Christmas, our priest got moved on to another parish far away, and the new priest has a big thing against "contemporary" music (translate - no drums and bass), so as of Christmas eve, 8 of the finest musicians I have ever had the privilege to play with were out of a gig.

So we have had the fun time of searching and waiting for a new home for our ministry. Its given us all a great chance to revisit our callings, but I must admit it has been a really tough time without it, but I have total faith that he will use me in the right spot when the time is right.

After much prayer, it looks like we will be back in town, at a new church with a great young Charismatic Catholic Priest who feels called to make his parish the best parish around, and he fully understands the value of music. He's ready to spend some good money on a quality setup (PA, V-Drums, new keyboard) so together we can all really make some noise for the lord.

So if you have room, spare a prayer for our team that we may raise him up to new heights and fill this parish with his spirit like never before.

God Bless ,

Gavin

Morning folks.

Asking for a number here...
Been playing in churches on and off for about 30 years now. Geeze I'm old. For the first time though, we have a band that is GREAT to play with. Both the lead guitar and drummer have toured (drummer did fill in stuff for the old Jefferson Airplane/Starship). Keys and acoustic are both great. For vocals, only the lead is in the monitors and she is very good. I'm having more fun playing than ever before. It was weird, I played for years because I like to play, and that's how I worship. Now, it's still worship, but it's much more fun. The avg age of the band is now around 50 (i'm the young'un). No drama, just great guys to play with. Their even talking about gigging and doing outreach.

We do mostly contemporary stuff, Hillsong, Parachute Band, Chris Tomlin, etc, but now with this band we will start venturing into more country/rock stuff...

Anyway, it's a great time to be playing for the Lord.

Welcome 1buba #477 to the club.

Admin note: I will be gone from now until the 19th. Long Business Trip!! Tell all newcomers that I will get to the asap when I get back. Thanks.

Hey does anyone know who does the version of "This little light of mine" That starts with a walking bass kind of Gospel swing style. I heard it being played over a PA system and wasn't able to ask who does it. I checked youtube and wasn't able to find it either.

I think it was Springsteen (yes THAT Springsteen!) who did this although it usually starts with piano.

what's your first fav???

You had to ask!:D Some guys are probably tired of me spamming this song by now.

Very powerful song! We have played it twice now at my church, and had an awesome move of God both times. And our Pastor (who is also our worship leader and a phenomenal piano player) let's me play the piano intro on the bass.:bassist:

I feel your pain..I remember when I played a 5 string for the first time. I thought I'd never learn... :D

'piannismo' -Now THAT is funny!!

We'll need a follow up from you more often my friend.

Blessings!

Hello all:

First of all, I'm not much of a player-I am sure there are many talented players on this site alone. But I do have a new video of me playing "Open the eyes of my heart" in Spanish. I was helping my nephew last Sunday to do a fundraiser for a church that was recently firebombed-twice!! :crying:
(That church must be doing something right..if the enemy is THAT pissed off.)

It was a privilege to play to help a church that feeds the local community (primarily Spanish-speaking) and offers assistance with other programs. Hope you like the video!

P.S. Please throw up a prayer for my nephew as he's getting started in the worship ministry. He's a talented musician...I can only pray he'll be a powerful worshipper! (Which is most important? Preferably the worship part!)

Blessings,

That sounds great, nice balance, especially for a group under a tent. You bass lines were just right IMHO.

Y'all are super tight. I have to say that this has always been one of my favorite worship songs, and hearing it in spanish has a special meaning for me.

Last April I went on a medical Mission Trip to Honduras. Our first day was spent in Tegucigalpa taking care of the logistics before we headed out to the countryside. Our hotel was right next to an evangelical church of some kind, and it was Saturday afternoon. I could hear the band practicing from the roof of the hotel, and they were singing this song... What a great start to an amazing week serving God!!

Yeah..well, the tent is being used until they can fund repairs for their church. Their main sanctuary was firebombed-so they set up this tent in their parking lot.

You know, sometimes a lot of people complain about the sound, setup, and the music in their building...what if you DIDN'T have a building and had to use a tent? I bet people would be more appreciative!

Blessings to all and thanks for your video comments.
