The Conklin bass gift

Evening all,

I was talking with my brother this evening about ERB's following comments I had read from a British luthier about the more outlandish ERB's having died a death. Yes, I remember that period about a decade ago when every luthier seemed to be trying to produce a bigger, bulkier instrument with more strings than the competition.

In the midst of all that, I remember a TB'er receiving a remarkable gift of charity and friendship. I can't remember who it was, or why he was gifted the bass but I recall that it was essentially crowdfunded by Talkbass before that term had even been coined.

The bass itself was a Conklin, possibly an 8 string, with a maple top and fretboard. It may have had a mild birdseye figure to it. I recall it being a lovely looking instrument and a really cool bit of work by the TB users who were involved.
