Yes, there's that bass again, and Simon's playing (miming?) fingerstyle, too. Genesis must've really liked the bit at the end, where they all have short legs; They have a very similar video to one of their songs! ;)

The same bass is actually also being used in the video to 'A Night Like This'. By the way, I've always hated those suits the whole band were wearing around that time - Just awful! Definitely bad 80's to me :D

Glad to see that, the little mash up bit, and interesting that it shows he CAN play fingers, just obviously chooses not too for the main shows. It makes you wonder if he ever recorded with fingers...I often wondered about Love Song a little, probably because of the video. Pretty sure that's pick on the recording. This is why he needs a more thorough interview in Bass Player or something.

Sorry but this is the kind of poopie that makes me sick and another good reason why i wish the cure would have broken up in the early 90's. Korn? Cure did a song with like Blink 182 also or something around the early 2000's. Seriously THESE are the bands the cure influenced!?!?!? Its like when mtv did this show to honor The cure, my god most of the bands who covered their songs were terrible. It was shameful. Where is the cure influence in Korn? Inexistent. Robert smith in the 80's would have said eff you we're too good for this poopie and in fact considering he was slagging off pretty much EVERYONE in the 80's including some actually good bands, he would have absolutely hated a band like Korn. I didn't even watch it, I just can't. Call me close minded.

Speaking of bad music, Simon's son has a band. Can't remember the name but its horrible emo. I think one of the most offensive comment i've read on youtube these past few years was someone calling The Cure old school emo... i never liked the goth label but i could see why, but we're calling The Cure emo now?

Yes i finally have my black eb-2 shaped bass like the Gallup Dick Knight. No it doesn't sound like it but i'm getting close to the tone i want with it (my main bass is the not much to look at Ibanez in the middle that sounds pretty Fendery cause it has J and P pickups and i managed to get this bass to sound close which is great)

Don't stress too much, The Cure has influenced some great post 2000 bands too! Think Interpol (coincidently a band that also contains some of my favourite bass playing). I agree that The Cure are all too frequently misjudged on the genre basis though. Apparently the fact that Robert Smith wears some eyeliner and dresses in black makes all the music they've ever written strictly emo/goth... Sigh.

Yeah I guess I share those sentiments for the most part. Seems quite the fashionable thing to name someone like The Cure as an influence. Not really my cuppa either, that kind of music. Then again, I do quite like The Cure's self-titled album, which apparently had been influenced in return by bands of Korn's genre? Definitely better than 'Bloodflowers'! Anyway, I find it really quite interesting how Robert's 'In-Between Days' bit fit the completely different chord-progression of this Korn song. But that's all, really.

And I'm with BassTapp, there are also decent bands that have been influenced by The Cure; Placebo even use a Fender VI in some of their earlier stuff, and I heard an Editors song on the radio not long ago with a curesque bass line, in fact one of the best I've heard in a while (I think it's called 'A Ton Of Love').

And would you believe that Robert thinks that Dinosaur Jr's cover version of 'Just Like Heaven' is better than The Cure's original? ;)

The Cure will be playing in my home town (Napa, CA) at the end of this month.
I hope Reeves Gabrels (guitar) is still part of the lineup, he is an amazing musician.

I have seen the band on stage many times and I am always surprise how good even older rock musicians sound.
I always assumed rock and roll was best delivered by the very young but it's not always the case.
Maybe I am trying to convince myself of this as I age.

I was watching a Cure live show from 2012 (I think?) not long ago, and I was surprised at how Reeves seemed to be kind of 'holding back'?! Also compared to Porl Thompson. Might've been the video's audio, of course. And only last week I was listening to him with Bowie on the 'Earthling' album, as my Exercycling Soundtrack :D

I liked interpol but always felt they had more of a Joy Division and Chameleons (i'm pretty big on the chameleons) influence, i never heard that much cure in them. I know Carlos idolized Simon though cause Robert mentioned it in an interview, like how when Carlos met Gallup he was almost in awe or something and asked him loads of questions. Even if again i don't specifically hear Gallup influences in his bass playing, i mean not more or less than most other post punk bands. I saw them live with the Cure on the 2004 curiosa tour. I said liked because after Antics they went downhill. Turns out they were a bit of a one trick pony and they'd already spent two records writing the best songs that trick could make them create. Are they still officially together? I mean i know Carlos left already some years back. I actually remember a quote after where he said bass was never his instrument of choice, that he never really liked playing it that much and that he was now bored with it...

Smith wouldn't want that. I always thought it was pretty funny how on Show at some points Thompson is freaking out like all over the neck and you can't hear ANY of it in the mix. They kept his guitar really low. It was like sure you can wank a bit if you want but you'll be doing it with your amp turned nearly off. I mean Thompson was in a very very early version of the Cure and was basically removed cause he was too technically advanced.

This is actually a 32". Surprisingly you kinda barely notice a difference with a 34". They could have said it was a 34 and id have believed it.

I have two problem with it but nothing major. One is that the paint chips very easy compared to any other basses i've had, but not that big a deal, just have to be more careful than i'm used to (i mean i've had the ibanez for 18 years and i've treated it like i don't give a poopie and it only has TWO chips and no real bump, this thing is a tank...)

The second issue but i'm sure this applies to all similarly shaped hollows/semi hollows, is that you can barely access fret 18 and nothing beyond it. So what? who uses them? Well... turns out i didnt really think of it but three of my songs go all the way down to the 19th for a note or two. So i can't play those with it. Oh well. i suppose maybe someone who holds it at chest height? But you know...i'm a post punk and punk fan, what height do you think i hold my bass? Too low that's how high.

Otherwise though, very comfortable to play. I was surprised i thought i'd have to adjust a lot for picking because of the bigger body and all, barely. I missed a few notes here and there the first day, then just naturally adjusted. And its so light. Thats' the thing thats always misleading with hollows. I mean i should know cause i have an hollow guitar but still you look at it and you think oh it's gonna be heavier. It's 1.5 pounds less than the ibanez. So about 7 pounds. It's almost weird when you're used to slinging heavier basses. It feels a bit a first like you're not holding much, but it sure is comfortable.

You haven't lived until you've played Prayers for Rain loud while watching a huge storm. One of my favourite memories in music is watching the lightning right as the drums kicked in.

They are certainly probably more Joy Division-esq than The Cure, most obviously in the vocal style. And yep, they're still together. They will be in Australia in the not too distant future for a major festival headline slot, unfortunately they are playing no sideshows... oh well.
Funnily enough I read that Peter Hook applied to fill Carlos's place and got turned down. :roflmao:

If that's true it would probably be because his fame would overshadow the rest of the band.

its weird they e touring when they haven't released a record in 4 years..
