I use a KMD amp stand, then put it directly behind my bass so that the bass acts like a baffle. The result gives the audience a mixture of acoustic bass with beefed up amp sound.

I wish I could play that way. Only one out of 10 or so gigs are that quiet and stay that way all night. I usually end up way to loud to shoot the cab right at the bass. It has to stay off axis and out of the way.

btw. I don't use a stand and just sit it on the floor and from time to time tilt it back.

I hear you. But what about one like Invalid Link Removed, with a tripod on the bottom? It looks pretty beefy, and honestly doesn't look all too different from what I'm using now.

My stand looks a lot like that On-Stage brand. And it does work like a mini speaker stand. Like relacy, I believe you will be reinforcing the top, and probably the clamping device that holds the top at whatever angle you want. On mine, the collars are plastic and already developing cracks from over tightening. I noticed in the reviews of the On-Stage stand that folks had Invalid Link Removed about the plastic parts.

Here's a [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] that advertises itself as all metal construction.

Joe - that last one may be the way to go. Hell, if i order it and don't dig it as an amp stand, it looks like a pretty decent music stand, no? I can always use another one of those.

I also like the look of Invalid Link Removed. Although it looks to be way shorter than I'm used to, with the adjustable angle I might be able to point the speaker where I need it to go. And unlike the one I'm using now, the arms fold down to make the footprint a lot smaller for the schlep...

Interesting about the music stand. I wonder if that would be an alternative to those gigantic PA speaker poles, when the PA consists of a couple dinky 10's.

there have been many threads "ranting" etc about the AI and how to get it to consistently sound great in various venues... I found that putting my Coda II on a freight box, chair, or anything that will not block the down-firing speaker really helped. together with the HP filter, I found this was a solution I could really work with and get good results.

so I got the idea to build a box. one day I saw a build-it yourself workshop box in IKEA. I got two, one with wheels, the other without to go on top. The top one without wheels I glued very solidly with wood glue and installed baffles to prevent any vibrations from rattling. I used a jigsaw and cut a round hole on one end about 70% of the size of the 10" speaker.

standing the box on one end, the AI sits on the top end. I have not had any muddy-sounding gigs with the AI, even in really close quarters with bad acoustics. the AI needs to be off the floor in this situation. If I need something to life another box, say the Wizzy, off the floor, I use this, too.

The two IKEA boxes fit together and with the wheeled one on the bottom, I can use it to haul some of my stuff, just pushing it into the room to set up. the other box with wheels serves as a kind of dolly for music stand, other amp (Clarus III, when I'm using that), etc. It's not only a "stand" but also a means to lug my stuff.
