The dreaded moment has come: choice between two Skynyrd songs

I personally don't care for ANY of the Skynyrd ballads: Freebird, Simple Kind of Man, Tuesday's Gone, etc. I don't think they demonstrate the same musicality - quality of writing, if you will - as their up-tempo stuff. Just my opinion.

It is weird, I agree. Which is part of the reason I hate playing it, and hate it when audiences get into it. Much prefer Neil's tune that sparked off SHA, or Neil's response.

+1 For "Poison Whiskey". That's one of the first songs my uncle taught me when I first picked up the bass ages ago. Lots of fun.

If it *has* to be a choice between only those two, go with Sweet Home.

But "Needle & Spoon" or "Give Me Back My Bullets" would be much better.

As our friend from Oklahoma pointed out, if you do any Skynyrd at all, honey, you are making a connection with the South.

Workin' for MCA. Now that's a statement! If it can only be between the 2 songs you listed then Tuesday. As much as I love Skynard Sweet Home is just plain DONE! Every lounge act has it in their set.

I used to love Tuesday's Gone but haven't listened to it in years. I hope your band has a mellotron to do it justice if you do go with it.

One of the Skynyrd songs I'd consider covering myself would be "Double Trouble." It has a funky little groove to it and clever lyrics IMO. Fun song.

With all due respect to Neil Young, I'm (expletive deleted) from the South, but that doesn't mean I won't play CSN&Y, The Band, or Rush. AAMOF, I'm thinking about learning to sing "The Weight" just so we'll play it!

Now that that's out in the open, my choice would be "Gimme Three Steps". I have played or regularly play -- and will play some tonight and next weekend -- many of the songs listed. I strongly prefer 3 Steps over Tuesday's Gone, Freebird, Sweet Home, Needle/Spoon, Bullets, MCA, Simple Man, I Ain't the One, Curtis Loew, or On The Hunt.

But my fave, by far, is I Know A Little!

Dont forget "Whiskey rock-a- roller" cause nobody in the crowd will know it and will be let down when you play it as a Skynyrd request. And its got a cool scale walking Bass line..And as mentioned ahead of this "Poison Whiskey" is a "bad....ss tune.
