The Executive Mind

Worked for a decade and a half in the org chart as lower-mid level producer mook for a large entertainment and sports programming network. It was always my contention that the company would have ground to a halt without overly long conference calls with accompanying Power Points, and 1000 line 40 column Excel sheets.

Most sales VPs believe sales originate from Salesforce.com as if data entries are tiny seeds that blossom into mighty revenue streams once they are entered. And the more often they are updated the more revenue they generate.

The musical equivalent would be if a BL told each musician to make a list of gigs they’d want and how much they would like to be paid and then summed them up and declared it to be a sold out world tour without ever recording or gigging.

While CRM tools have their organizational value the real benefit is the perception that executives learn to believe that relationships don’t have value in the selling cycle. They unilaterally believe sales come from reports and not the other way around because Facebook and Insta and TikTok have informed their business perspective.

Ok, that’s my modern executive soap box.
