The Fender Jazz Bass Club Part Seven!!!

It was in my post... early 70's.
Sorry, but so many posts are made to this club, it's hard to keep track of them all. :banghead:

Also FWIW, I actually reallyl like the Fender Noiseless... can't remember which gen I have... it's the American Elites (both 4 and 5 string models). But if I were to replace them with something, I don't know I'd go B-Axis, though I also haven't been a tinkerer for quite some time, so there's that.
I checked a bunch of different sources and they all say the Elites were armed with the Fourth-Generation Noiseless pickups. I don't know what they'd sound like through Fender's preamps, but the passively wired ones I got with my Mod Shop Jazz sound pretty damn good…to my ears, at least. Good enough that I didn't feel the need to replace them with my Plan-B pickups, a set of Custom Shop '60s.

4th Gen. Thanks.

Both my Elites of course have the Fender preamp... I really like that preamp as well. Honestly, my only complaint has always been that the passive tone control is disabled in active mode. I strongly disagree with that design choice (and in both my reviews of the Elite and Ultra, I said so, and I've also discussed in in person with Fender Product Management at NAMM). I can't remember if they rectified that in current models or not tho... I'd have to check. I hope they did.

Hi JB Club

Does anyone know if there is a difference in the neck profiles between the American Standard, Professional I, and Professional II Jazz Basses?

I am in the market for a replacement JB neck. I've tried the AM Pro II JB neck and liked the profile, but the 5 bolt shape won't fit my conventional body.

Thanks!

American Standard is modern C, Pro I is also the same (I think), and Pro II is a “63 C shape.”

I definitely like both neck shapes but lean more towards the 63 shape. Nice chunk of wood near the higher frets. The Pro II necks, as you said, won’t fit due to the 5-bolt design so I’d look for an American standard neck from 2012-2016 (best era of Fender imo).

“Penguino” aka Ty.
Born in Ensenada, 1998 ~9lb3oz.
(Marked) fretless-J with a lovely slab RW board.
A cherished gift 20something years ago.

Took the long road to find its perfect pairing, seen here. 1965 B15N.

I can't believe I forgot to post this here! Time to rectify that slip-up!

Well, I finally joined the club and picked up my first Jazz bass after decades of G&Ls and Precisions.

I’ve been on the lookout for a light four string fretless, as my main G&L L2500 is just too damn heavy for my shoulder anymore, and my hands told me to find a slimmer neck.

Just picked up this MIJ Traditional 60’s Jaco in a trade, and it’s a sweet little bass. Build is damn near perfect, the setup is great, and the neck is a dream. It’s a 2022, and has seen almost no use. Looks like somebody tried fretless and quickly noped out.

I have a feeling it will soon be wearing a Badass II bridge.

Happy NBD, it's a beauty. Fwiw, my L-1500 is 3.63 Kg (8 freedom units), how much does the Fender weigh?
7lbs-13oz (3.54Kg). She’s nice and light. My main bass is a fretless L2500 that is a lead weight in comparison (never weighed it because I don’t want to know). I love it but I can’t play it long on my shoulder anymore.

Good morning all you Jazzy TB'ers

A friend of mine offered me this MIM Jazz yesterday for $450. I wasn't looking for one but he's selling due to a bit of a financial situation, so I don't plan on negotiating the price. It seems fair from the little research I've done. I don't know the year, my next step is to look up the SN.

It seems like a good price to me, do you all agree? Is there anything that is problematic about these?
He's going to bring it by our rehearsal on Wednesday so I can give it a try.

Thanks.

<<EDITT>> SN lookup says it's a 2009 GC-FSR STD J BASS RW NAT

I would definitely say check it out first before you buy it to see how it sounds and feels, but if all that checks out for you...

Here's what Google AI says... it seems accurate to me...

Used Fender Mexican (MIM) Jazz Basses generally sell for $400 to $750 on the used market, depending on the specific model, condition, and whether a case is included.
The value breaks down as follows based on the specific series:
Fender Standard Series (1990s – 2018): These are the most common. In good condition, expect to pay between $400 and $550. Older models with cosmetic wear and no case often hit the lower end of this spectrum.
Fender Player Series (2018 – Present): The current standard Ensenada-made offering features upgraded pickups and modern appointments. Used examples typically fetch between $600 and $750.
Deluxe, Vintera, or Special Edition Series: Upgraded and vintage-reissue models (e.g., active electronics, special finishes, or roasted necks) can reach $700 to $900+ depending on rarity and demand.

I have four MIM jazz basses, and they're alright. Just make sure the truss rod works. If it doesn't that's a deal breaker.
