The Fender Modern Player Jazz Bass Club

So I believe they discontuined the Satin Vs with the all Maple neck.

Ok I will say it.

This has to be one of the saddest moves that Fender has done for the consumers. :bassist::)

These basses are great

-fully glossed neck

-Solid heavy bridge

-Pickups are musical (not digging the single coil only sound BUT the humbucker sound is pretty good).

-The satin finish is as good as any

-lots of tonal options

-Built very well...especially for the money

Fender "Oh hey...We knocked out with this one...Ok cool...Lets stopping building it now." :rollno::rollno::rollno:

I am completely enamored with my newly acquired MPJV! I'll take a number!

I agree that it is a crime that these have been discontinued. Though the four banger is still listed on the revamped Fender site, most retailers are listing them as unavailable so it seems it may be curtains for the MP Satin Jazz!

I´ll take a number if your handing out :)

Well happy with mine. Output is almost like the active basses I´ve tried (is that whats called hot pups?), but still lots of jazz tone. Couldn´t be happier. My black color varies according to light. Pretty much straight black when dark, but lots of visible grain in certain types of light and viewing angle. Gorgeous :)

We should def keep this club alive, especially if they are discontinuing these. If the Satin is gone, I´m afraid the rest will follow...?

I´m formerly known as andrklet, club member #19. But my profile got wiped when TB was upgraded and I had to create a new profile. If numbers are being handed out and the club kept alive I´d like my old #19 assigned to my new TB name; AndreasK:thumbsup:

Picked this up on Thursday. It's not a jazz but a modern player nonetheless. Sounds great and the neck is simply outstanding!

Fender Modern Player Jaguar

I also purchased a Modern Player Jaguar. I couldn't be happier with it. someone put D'adario chromes on it - and it sounds great. I put mine through a GK backline 250 with a 15" JBL. sounds like the hit the nail on the head with the Modern Player series.

Okay, the original club admin, ArchStanton, has not checked in to the site for over a year...so I am taking over!

I will be looking forward to more discussion about these rare beasts. I wanna see what you've done to yours to make it your own.

In my reign as admin there will be but two rules to comply with in order to become a member:
  1. You must post a picture of your bass with a MPJ neck and body, all other mods are welcome.
  2. You must ask for a number in the post (no need to send me a private message). If you post a pic but don't ask for a number, I'll assume you don't want one.
All members are members for life unless they ask to be removed.

Here is the roster:

1. ArchStanton
2. ih8law
3. RadioactiveGuy4
4. Transistor Bass
5. Lukejt
6. Bethelbass1
7. Double E
8. Mr Gaston
9. Matt W.
10. Nick_2112
11. Wolframgoatfish
12. Vrussell
13. Ironwolf
14. jweber76
15. gustobassman
16. gzii
17. Archerygenious
18. jjk2007

Okay...so here's what I am doing to make my MPJV into a Super Duper Modern Player Jazz V Deluxe.

I ordered an [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] preamp to drop in there. I am going to add a mini toggle before the preamp to keep some coil splitting options open.

End result: I will have either two humbuckers or two single coils at the flip of the switch...I didn't really find enough reason to keep the option to run either single/humbuck combo...just not that unique of a tone.

The pre has a four band EQ in it plus a Z-mode switch that will dish up more options than I am sure I will ever use. I can solo or blend the pickups with the preamp's blend knob as well.

This will all fit into the bass with zero mods to the body so I can return it to normal if I please.

Before I got my MPJ I had only played a P bass. I haven't really made friends with the two volume knobs. I tend to feel like my volume needs to be tweaked from one song to the next and two volume knobs make it a lot more complicated to do on the fly.

I am seriously considering converting it to a master volume / blend configuration. I posted about it and some people said it would alter the tone so I'm not sure. I have already bought the blend pot, just not sure if I am going to pull the trigger.

If it's done right, it works great. Lots of players swear by the blend knob. There are some tricks I think to installing one just read up. There are a few threads here that had some good info, but I can't seem to find 'em right now.

Nice to see some life here again!
So far I've just done a couple of cosmetic things...new scratchplate (black-cream-black), black screws, and a black bridge cover.
Also, Fender straplocks added.
Also, like Mr. Gaston above, I replaced the strings. I went with Fender Flatwounds.

Can I join? Got mine from Musicians Friend for $349 and I love it. My P bass hasn't seen the light of say since I got this.

Actually, I hated it with the strings that came on it. Then I put a set of chrome flats on and now it's my favorite bass that I have ever played.

This bass should come with flats.

Had chromes on mine too. Very good! But I´m back to rounds now (Some Ernie Ball´s which I find OK), as I just got a P with flats and those two fill each other out nicely!

Has anyone set their MP up with heavier strings? I sometimes need to go C# and standard strings get way to floppy. But i also want to be able to go standard tuning or at least D#. I know I wont get perfect action with both, but any input to string choice is welcome :)
