Mids. .. clarity. ....Upper mids I s'pose mainly. I def don't need/want a horn buti get plenty of highs and upper miss outta the NV412.
That's about it. Used a P bass with flats and found ita li'l blurry, boomy. Of course the room comes into play.
I'll try again. This was the 2nd time and this last time was better than the 1st. I'll get it there. And soon.

That's interesting, Rod, because when I went out the first time with my Fender neo 810 cab and the SB300 there seemed almost too much upper mids and clarity for me. It was different to the neo 610 I used to own which seemed slightly warmer and took some adjusting. There was no way I could hide any errors in the mix. I had thought that perhaps the Ampeg fridge would be a better match but maybe Fender knew exactly what they were doing. I have been told by the importers that the neo 810 is the cab that was developed specifically for the SB300. OTOH as I wrote earlier, nothing beats the SB300 into the Berg NV215 so far. That NV series is absolute magic for us tubeheads, wish I had grabbed a 412. Jim must bring it back soon.....

Interesting discussion. I agree - an all tube head slamming into that NV cab is magic. And, I believe the NV412 is still in production (at least is still out on the website). I'm experimenting a bit as I love the tone of my current rig (Sadowsky RV4 --> SB300 --> NV412) in some situations. In others, though it isn't exactly what I'm looking for, which is a more old-school tone. I bought a P Bass along with some Ampeg cabinets and will be mixing/matching them to experiment a bit. I want to try:

1. PBass --> SB300 --> NV412
2. Sadowsky --> SB300 --> Ampeg 212AV (x2)
3. PBass --> SB300 --> Ampeg 212AV (x2)

Will be interesting to do the mix/match. I was interested in the 810s, too given my past experiences with the Ampeg. I like the color they add to my tone and I understand (from you, Tim) that the Fender 810 adds color too. The 212AVs are nice - good Ampeg tone, smooth and I like the modular setup since there are times I have my kids and can't transport a bigger cab...

The NV412 might be still on the website but I don't think they are making them any more, Alexander. You might find one second hand though. AFAIK the only NV cab still being made is the NV115 - two of these would be a seriously awesome option and give you a modular setup too. Tom Bowlus really rates the 2 x NV115 stack.

FYI, I just got an email from the Bass Emporium in Austin (which is still operating as an online store) yesterday that they're doing a run of NV412s with tweeters (like the NV610T that Rocket Music is doing). I have no affiliation with BE. Invalid Link Removed
