The first bass you had!

My first was a Vox Phantom. An ugly redone greeninsh-sunburst finish & tapewounds.... it went "thud, thud, thud".

Then I got my first real bass: a brand new 1974 Fender Musicmaster.... it went "thud, thud, thud".

Shortly after that it was my first Ric 4001- now that was a nice bass.

Actually, I wish I still had them all.

My first bass was an Epiphone. No wonder I'm in love with my Casady!

It was back in 1972. It looked something like a P-bass, but with shorter horns. It had two single coil
pups on it, one right at the end of the neck, and the other right at the bridge. It was bright red! it was also 32" scale. Me and my Renaissance brain then destroyed it.(Unwittingly.) I figured that I'd make it a 34" scale bass, and did so by moving the
bridge two inches towards the end of the body. Now it was a 34" scale bass. With a 32" scale neck!
It wasn't till a friend who'd realized what I did explained to me why I could get the bass in tune with open strings, but, never at the fifth fret!

Live and learn!

My first bass was this pointy sparkley blue thing made by Charvel. It had a nice pointy headstock like all the good guitars made in the eighties. It's a good bass too. Infact I still play it quite a bit. It has active electronics and is really bright sounding. If I remember right, my uncle baught it for me on my eleventh birthday in 1992. I remember cus I fealt like the coolest bad arse eleven year old around. :D

my first bass was a Memphis tobacco sunburst p-bass copy, with a neck the width of one of JT'S 7.
funny thing about that day 7/16/81 was there was a Memphis J-bass right next to the one I bought but what 16 yr old funkster want's to play jazz LoL.
I SWEAR I didn't know any better.

My first bass was an old Fender Musicmaster. Didn't take me long to outgrow that one.

After that came a Charvel P/J bass (not sure on the model). I actually liked that one a little bit, although it was HEAVY.

Then came a Hamer Cruisebass 5 string (my first fiver). Traded that in for my Cirrus 5. Then I bought a Millenium Plus, and I traded that in for my Warwick FNA 4 about a month later.

Oh, you only wanted to hear what my first bass was. OOPS.

My first axe was a (vague) Precision copy : Hohner PJ Bass (sorry).
4 strings, passive, one PJ pup (neck), one JB pup (bridge).
It had bad tone, bad playing, and was humming like hell but I loved it.
I gave it to my little brother and I play it a little when visiting him.
You can't totally forget your first love, I guess ;)

A Gibson EB0. That was just after I'd switched to bass from 6 string in the early 70s. After that I bought an EB3. That bass was, as I remember, a bit of a plank to play.

For some ludicrous reason I got rid of the EB3 for a Baldwin Shadows bass. I played that for a bit then gave up music altogether until last Christmas.

I now have a Squier Affinity P Bass. My God how I wish I'd still got that Gibson - not that the P is too bad but it doesn't come close to a Gibbo, does it....?

My first bass was a used Kay EB-O style bass with a burgundy finish. Not knowing a thing about guitars, but desiring to learn, I told the salesman that I wanted the cheapest bass he had. He pulled out a cheap-looking case & said that it was his daughter's old bass. Price? $75.00. Sold!

I eventually sold it to a friend who played upright bass in the school orchestra & wanted to learn bass guitar. He in turn sold it to his Uncle who still owns it to this day.

My second bass is something of a mystery. To the best of my recollection, it was a copy of a Gibson Victory bass with a vintage sunburst finish. I can't remember that brand name, though I'm sure it was a Japanese import. I ended up trading it in towards my first Rickenbacker 4001 a few months after I bought it. I've yet to see one like it anywhere on the web. If anyone has any info on companies that made Victory bass copies, please let me know.

My first love was a Gibson EB3-L! I played that thing for years then got a Rick 4003 copy of a 4001 Paul McCartney bass.

I got stupid or bored and traded the Gibson for a Ibenaz 40 fretless. I Had that Gib for years, sure wish I hadn't gotten rid of it :(

I'd love to find it. I still remember the serial No# 447744. Anyone?
