The Fog!

Ok, we had a gig this last Friday, benefit gig under challenging circumstances in setting up, and during the show the lead guitarist, who uses this elaborate setup of a 2x12 Line 6, a 1x12 Mustang III, a Roland midi thing that he also hooks up to a Bose L1 PA thing. Luckily he isn't too loud onstage, but I'm glad I'm moving to the other side of the stage so I don't have to constantly negotiate his gear when I need to check my backline.

At every show we've done, at some point his volume drops out, some songs he's louder than others, but at this Friday gig he claimed it was the "fog" that was shorting his stuff out. Unfortunately there was no fog, it was a pretty nice day for the SF peninsula, a tiny bit muggy, high over head clouds through the evening. I live in a fog bank. I know what fog is. There was no fog that night.

I had to laugh when he emailed that excuse last night, but really, can that be possible? Fog as the culprit?

Well my man,
I have NO PROBLEM believing a guitard that hauls that much crap around,
also hauls around his own fog.
They do have medication for that you know.

HAha, I looked up that little PA stack he uses and almost lost my cookies when it came up as $2500. Lately he's been obsessed with running a "stereo" rig, which is ironic since most of the music we're playing probably wasn't even recorded in stereo. Even when I was playing guitar I always kept it simple and straight forward. For years I used an old Harmony electric into an old Supro that had only 1 12" in it, and no reverb. Man, I would seriously give my left testicle to have that amp back. It could be loud, but when it was cranked it had that super buttery old school tube driven blues sound. I traded it as part of a deal to get a Ibanez lawsuit strat and a tube Traynor amp. Major trade FAIL.

Oh, funny you mention the fog machine, because the church had the stage setup in front of what looked like a storefront, but it was supposed to be a steamship (the festival theme was Mardi Gras Madness....in September...), so througout our sets smoke was billowing out of the stacks behind us. Not much drifted down to us but it was a nice effect. They're not on here, but you catch the tail end of it in the clip.

I could be wrong, but I believe Mardi Gras/Carnival/Fashing is a Catholic event before Lent starts.

Maybe the Pope could explain it. Your Excellency? Paging the Pope to this thread! I know he reads these threads - his bass groove is Infallible!
