I've already got a number, but here's my new baby. She's a sweet, sweet singer!

Hasbeen - nice! I've never been one to want a 6'er, until playing this Zon 5 - now I can understand how the high C would be a nice thing... :D

I need a photo of this bass with my rig (GB NeoPak)... :D :D

Thanks! You know, I didn't want a 6 when I bought her. I went to a high-end shop in my area to try out several fretless they had.....I was looking for a 5 string as I didn't play 6.......yet.

So anyway, after playing all these very expesivie 5 string fretless, I wasn't that thrilled. The store owner said to try the 6 string Zon for giggles.

Man, the voice of that instrument. I bought it in spite of not knowing what to do with the high C.

Several years later, fretted and fretless, I'm almost strictly on 6 string and it all started with my Zon.

I'm already a member with a number, but I figured I'd post the update to my... fretlessness. I sold off my defretted Yamaha RBX-775 seen here to a fellow TBer (to which it was his first fretless, and was very happy with the defret and the bass as a whole) and used the profit to fund my Spector ReBop 5 DLX FM fretless' trip to upstate NY and HG Thor's Epoxy Treatment. Certainly not cheap : $360 for a 5-string bolt-on with set-up + $40 upcharge for 24 frets + shipping - but if you're a fan of modern "glossy" fretless tone, it's something that simply cannot be beaten. The tone across the entire spectrum now contains both a wonderful growl in the low and low-mids to as much ""mwah" in the upper range as I've heard from any fretless, period. I find myself playing it more and more these days, and it was a really nice fretless bass beforehand (something Harris was nice enough to point out, that "it's a great fretless bass period, and I get the best result with the epoxy out of those":

...as an example, his new holographic "Axe" logo that appears to be resting on top of the fretboard? It's actually embedded within several coatings of epoxy - yes, it's that clear. :D

I have a bunch of Aguilar OBP3SK/PPs that will be replacing the TonePump preamps in all my Spectors, and somewhere down the line I'd like to replace the EMG-HZ pickups (although I actually prefer the passive HZ line to Active EMGs for my personal tone) with Nordstrand Big Singles, even stock I have a feeling that this is *THE* one in terms of fretless basses for me, and can only imagine perhaps a Mike Lull Modern 5 fretless as a J-bass fretless joining it somewhere in the future simply for a different sound... but certainly not "needed".

OK, sign me up. I've got a crappy Cort FL that plays & sounds awesome. I bought it for $125 from a guy at work. It had a red metal-flake finish that someone had "punked" by burning cigarette burns in. I stripped & sanded it down to bare plywood (yes, plywood), repainted it metallic green (from a spray can) sanded the round-wound wear out of the fingerboard, and replaced the tuners with ill-fitting Fender style machines.

It's my main bass, keeping my '76 Fender P in the rack.
