2005 Cort B4FL. Not a classic...or as pretty as some of the other basses here....but it's my first fretless (well my first bass I own too) and I love it to bits!

Would anybody in the fretless community like to take my Lakland 55-02 off my hands? It's a 35 and too difficult for my small hands to adjust to. Amazing bass, and I'd love for someone who truly loves it to buy it from me. I've priced it to match the harsh economic times at $749 shipped. Sorry for stooping this low (no pun intended) and trying to push my bass in a forum. I could really use the cash though so I can put it towards a bass that I will truly love and play all the time.

Certainly not cheap : $360 for a 5-string bolt-on with set-up + $40 upcharge for 24 frets + shipping - but if you're a fan of modern "glossy" fretless tone, it's something that simply cannot be beaten. The tone across the entire spectrum now contains both a wonderful growl in the low and low-mids to as much ""mwah" in the upper range as I've heard from any fretless, period. I find myself playing it more and more these days, and it was a really nice fretless bass beforehand (something Harris was nice enough to point out, that "it's a great fretless bass period, and I get the best result with the epoxy out of those":

...as an example, his new holographic "Axe" logo that appears to be resting on top of the fretboard? It's actually embedded within several coatings of epoxy - yes, it's that clear. :D

I have a bunch of Aguilar OBP3SK/PPs that will be replacing the TonePump preamps in all my Spectors, and somewhere down the line I'd like to replace the EMG-HZ pickups (although I actually prefer the passive HZ line to Active EMGs for my personal tone) with Nordstrand Big Singles, even stock I have a feeling that this is *THE* one in terms of fretless basses for me, and can only imagine perhaps a Mike Lull Modern 5 fretless as a J-bass fretless joining it somewhere in the future simply for a different sound... but certainly not "needed".

THAT is what a bass should look like. Seriously probably the first bass I would ever rate 10/10 for looks, it's literally just perfect! Any soundclips or anything? Thor's work looks so nice and it suits the finish perfectly.

LOL at stringless bass comments!!! I had just taken the strings of and cleaned it up nicely. Thought I'd snap some shots before I get my greasy paws all over it. There's a bit of a shortage of flatwounds in my area atm (Cape Town), but I managed to pick up a set of Ernie Balls. Cool sounds. I'll take some pics this evening and post what it looks like strung up.

@kesslari: I'm no expert, but I've played a lot of different basses in my recent search for the "Bass for me". And it's by FAR the coolest sounding of the lot. I really like the mwah sound!!! ok...I'm gushing...lolz! bugger.:help: It slides like a DREAM!

Thanks muchly, RB - Given Harris's Waiting List I had a year to spend "bonding" with my Spector before it had the epoxy treatment and it was a great fretless even before that, but coating and Harris' absolutely *pro* setup for a fretless has made it a delight to play and listen to. The the before/after description of the tonal differences the coating made I listed pretty well in the original post, but to reiterate: given the "Modern" tone of a Spector, adding the epoxy gives it a very "Pedulla"-like tone but IMO a touch brighter electronically due to the lack of Bart pickups and electronics (I have and like Bart preamps in my Mike Lull, but aren't a fan of the pups). Then again, I have plans to replace the EMG HZs/Spector TonePump with a Nordstrand Big Single/Aguilar OBP-3 setup, so the control over the mids that will give me should allow me a good deal more control EQ-wise.

Sorry, no soundclips as of yet: I have to send my MacBook in for service (screen issues) so I'll be missing recording functionality for a bit. Although perhaps I can get a quick piece of music done before that happens... :smug:
