The hunt for a job....

Aren't you glad you asked this bunch of clowns for advice, houndx ?

We are at our best when we stick together,

Caddy at a country club. That's what I did. Got up at 4:30 a.m., pedalled my bike across town to be there(rich town adjacent) by 5:30-ish. I had a lovely first day: they make you do a few days of caddy school, learn how to approuch the pin without screwing up anyone's putting line, etc. Some really round kid is always lagging. My first round there are 4 golfers and the round kid is carrying for one of them. He sat down between 6th and 7th holes, started crying, wasn't going any further. Golfer went nuts on him, tells him to get his fat ass up, I think he may even have kicked him a little. I offered that I could carry double if they would tolerate the pace. I did. My tip was bigger than my expected flat rate. $4 flat for 18 holes, I got a $6 tip.

Uphill both ways, right? Barefoot, crawling on your knees in ten feet of snow? Ahh, those were the days.

Dude, caddying isn't all bad. A.Sometimes you get tipped out for cash. B.If you are good you might get asked to carry for a tournement, and if your guys are any good you might get a serious bonus. I did that once and my guys made it to second place. I'd say my take worked out to $15/hr. In 1976!! Then they had the less than serious 'tournies, babes at a couple of the par 3(possible hole-in-01) holes - guys got to pick up a babe to escort us for rest of round or some such if they made a hole-in. Beer stop points.

Hard physical work is not all bad - get in shape, get a tan and get paid for it. OR flip burger and pay to go to a gym. Your choice.

I worked at a country club too Edpal. I was kitchen wait staff as a junior in High School. We were tipped FAR better than the caddies as a general rule. I once got a $20 tip for bringing a lady an extra butter scotch pudding to her.
I considered it an excellent start to my plan to redistribute wealth from the upper crust to the bottom feeders. My current work(vintage watch repairs) is the same deal essentially. Me, care about watches? OMG!!! LOLOLOLOOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLLOLOLOLO!

Funniest was the guy who HAD to take the Asian client out for a day of American golfing. Guy had never held a club before. Not only did I THROW a few of his balls from out of blind rough areas, I pitched him out of a sand trap while his oblivious visitor was over the hill. :)
