The Hunt for the Lost Bass

The film tells the story of the search for Paul McCartney’s lost Höfner 500/1 violin bass guitar. Bought by McCartney in Hamburg in 1961, and used extensively with The Beatles, the instrument was stolen in London in 1972 and remained missing for decades.
Seemingly, it was found in a Sussex attic and returned to him in 2024, having been authenticated as the missing instrument.

Not a bad flick, if you get a chance to see it. But is there a more iconic bass / player combo in the history of playing bass?? ;-)

It’s nice it was returned to him after 50+ years but sad too that he’s got such little time left to play and enjoy it. Hope he’s been using it since its return, anyone know if he’s gigged it?

I know he has and I hope he brings it out for at least a couple of songs per show. After so many years lost and now back home, I hope he realizes that, IMO, get as much enjoyment from it while he still can, instead of putting it in his personal museum.

Hoping it gets a US release soon and tried to watch on iPlayer, but it wanted 15 pounds a month subscription. I followed the story the past few years and not sure if its covered in the film, but when I saw a youtube interview with the roadie who tells the story I was stunned to learn that Paul's cavern did NOT have a flat back. Never seen one without it. That fact would be super important to validate the bass as every other Cavern I've ever seen has a flat back and Paul's 61 has a curved back like most traditional Hoffies.
