So just wondering WHAT U think of these, I'm thinking of getting it as a 'beater'- sumthin' I can use at gigs where GOOD sound is needed, but space is VERY limited-i.e I have NO room to move-headstock hits cymbals, body hits wall etc... :-( sad -but a reality at some gigs. Just this bass seems to sing beautifully acoustically- build(typical Ibanez) is SUPERB-neck joint is tight as....., playability seems wonderful. I like the looks w/ binding etc also.... excellent condition, 2nd hand- $400AUD-which if U think that an SX -P goes for about $350 new here................. well, I just thought as it's active & an Ibby......

G'day mate,

I've got a couple of SRXs, a 500 and a 650. 500 in the "tiger stripe" trans black finish (Korean) and 650 (Indonesian) is trans blue edge bound all the way up with gold hardware. They both sound absolutely fantastic through my Trace rig (if anything the 500 sounds better but the 650 plays better).
The 390 is a beautiful looking baby with the edge binding. I bought the 650 blind off Ebay and was totally blown away with the output from the pups so I bought the 500 too!!! You will NOT be disappointed believe me.

Hi Guys and Girls,

Being big (MASSIVE) Ibanez fans I must say it's a pleasure to be among you. Best basses you can buy for decent dollars (or in my case English pounds).

I like to go for the Fujigen ones mainly but the Korean and Indonesian ones are excellent too.

By the way, how do I actually subscribe to the club and get a membership number???

I'm loving getting back into bass after a long, long time away from it and Ibanezs are my instrument of choice. Got all sorts in the little collection but always go back to an Ibanez (4 of 'em).

Has anyone managed to compare side by side a SR500 & SR520? From what I can tell, they're identical in specs, except for the neck wood (500 = wenge/bubinga - the new ones have the jatoba/bubinga combo; 520 = maple/rosewood). I'm curious how different or alike these 2 sound? Is the different neck wood making any noticeable difference? I've previoulsy owned a SR500 (made in 2007) and I really liked its tone: powerful, growly, aggressive, yet round and modern (at least they way I used to set it). Is the 520 pretty much the same thing, or a completely different beast? I'm thinking of buying these 2, but there are no shops that carry the 520 in my area, so I'd be forced to buy it online, without testing it. I hope the 520 sound pretty much the same with just subtle different tonal characteristics...you see, I used to play an EDB550 which I liked a lot and after a while I also bought an EDB700 which to my ears turned out to sound a lot worse (darker & way muddier, with no real tone definition and weak output - although being a higher number in the EDB line) - so I don't want to go to such an experience again :)

And while we're at it, can anyone say if there's a difference between the sound of the older SR500 (with the wenge/bubinga necks) and the 2009 ones (with the jatoba/bubinga necks)? Tnx!

i recently got a sr500! it is new but...i gotta take it into the shop to get it fixed cuz the top of the neck near the headstock, the strings are too close to the fret board. the middle of the neck is fine, just the top part. i like how it sounds tho. very good. its just...ugh...stupid salesman at music shops. only want u to buy something, never really want to genuinely help. their version of "help" is convincing u to buy something. i mean, i wanted the bass the begin with, i was gonna buy it, just please be honest with me for once!

Hi mate,

My advice is don't buy new. All but two of my basses were bought used and they're fine. I use Ebay as the main source for my gear and I've found that musos are genuine, honest, friendly people to deal with.
If you're pi**ed at the music shop guys with the SR I suggest you find a local independent specialist to sort it for you. Here in England I know a guy who specialises in Ibanez set up, repair etc (both bass and guitars). Cheaper than the shops and better quality workmanship in my experience.
SR 500 is a VERY nice bass though. Once she's sorted you'll love it even more.

Hi Mate,

I played the Saber last night actually. I think I'm gonna have one last play with the trick bridge before I take it to a mate of mine who specialises in Ibanez set up, repair etc. One more shot and if I can't get it right it will have to be done by the professionals!!
I love the thing - got fantastic sounds out of it yesterday. Pi**es the neighbours off when I turn the rig up though!!! :) I LOVE IT LOUD!!!

I also have a black SR800, but no pics of it. I've been meaning to replace the electronics on it at some point. Currently considering an SR700 or 4000E. I like the SRX, but I find myself still picking up the old SR. The SRX necks just don't feel the same.

Funny how neither of the 2 I've owned have made it onto the "Ibanez Register..."
My current bass, an SR655 5er, isn't there; nor is my first Ibanez, an early/mid 90's SR506 6-string. Completely different from the current version of the SR506; had a maple body, 3-piece maple neck with wenge fingerboard, ADX6 pickups & pre.
