The Ibanez Club (Part 3)

Hi

I own a Ibanez Identical to the one on the picture I found in #15 in this thread

I think I bought it in 1985 or maybe 1984 - but by then it was 2nd hand

I believe it was one of the first production bases with active pickups, but other than that I don't know anything apart from it being excellent build. Also I still think it sounds wonderfull.

Can anyone help me identify it ?? .... And is it worth anything ?

Yup, Musician bass. As far as i know they're from the late 70s. I think mint versions go for around 700. Could be wrong though. Nice bass. Ibanez recently released an anniversary version of the bass. They made 20 of them and they cost 10 grand.

As a newbie and a beginner, allow me to introduce myself.
I'm new to the bass, though not new to the bass clef. I'm an old tuba player, who just recently decided to take up the bass.
Last week, I bought my first bass and amp (a "candy apple red" Ibanez SR300, with an Acoustic B20 combo) from everyone's favorite store, Guitar Center. I like the way it looks and the way it sounds. I have my first lesson this week.

Here are a couple pics:

Yes. I have left on the knob label. I'm still learning what each knob does.

That's an Ibanez Musician MC 924 from 1979 on the picture. Have a look at the serial#. The first letter indicate the month and the next two figures indicate the year of production. The first series of these basses (1978) didn't have an extra pocket for the battery.

Thanks for the input. My bass does not have the switch that is closest to the front pickup ... I have looked around on the net and found that my bass likely is te 1982 version of MC924- I'll check the serial - but I don't have it at home so it will take a couple of days

I actually considered converting it to fretless as it is a very good bass with a modern tone. However having learned what I have I guess i'll go buy a fretless instead and leave my MC924 stock

Right on, welcome to the fray. I'm 3 weeks into my learning, I just started. I read good stuff about the 300s, you'll love it. Mine's a 200FM..I'm learning something new about it everyday. lol!!

And WOW!! Another former tuba player!! WOO!!!!!! I played tuba/sousa back in high school...thats....oh...20 years ago. I'm old in this game but new to bass.

Just had the opportunity to check the serial... It is L824126 .. So verified from 1982 ... But what does L mean ??

Plugged it in - and woa... still love that sound. In some areas it totally kills my Yamaha TRB-5PII although there are more than 25 years between them.

Sorry for the bad picture quality ... cell-phones claim to have it all:hmm:

Saw a 1982 MC924 on ebay ... buy it now for 1300 $ - starting bid 900 $ ... Pretty good price for a Bass 28 years old

I think it means December.

A = January
B = February and so on.

I own a 1979 Musician; its serial number is H795066.

So H = August, 79 = 1979, and 5066 means it was the 5,066th instrument made. Whether that means the 5,066th instrument made for the year or the month, I'm not sure.

This is the info I recall from a vintage Ibanez site years ago.

I don't know if it still exists.

I also could be wrong about this info, but this is how I remember it.

Left to Right: Brand spanking new Ibanez SR600 (just picked up last night). Next one is my daughter's Ibanez Mikro bass(she is 3 and loves it!). Last one is a 2009 SR535 5 string. The combo in the background is the new Hartke hydrive 210c, which I also bought last night. And I told the wife i was just going to get some strings! I didnt lie, the bass came with the strings!!!! She didnt see the humor......

It's valid for Ibanez from 1976 through 1986.
