Got a BTB1005 on the way this week. I can't wait, my first 5 string. I'll post pics when she arrives.

Actually, I have a question. The bass has the original Ibanez branded pickups in it. I recall reading somewhere that a lot of folks like to replace them along with the pre (in some cases) but had problems finding the right size. Are there drop-in pups I could use on there? Does Bartolini make a set?

If it has stock ibanez, you can put some bartolini mk1s

Hi everybody. I'd like to join the list, being the proud owner of three Ibanez basses:
- a 1985 RB850 (my first "serious" bass), strange model between the Musician series and the Roadster series: Bolt-on neck; two humbuckers (but singlecoil-switchable); volume tone and balance controls; great "big" sound, very versatile even if very Eighties; still my Bass of the Heart after 24 years;
- a 1987 Musician MC940, fretless. Neck-thru-body, active pups; my very own little "Bass of Doom" (I was young and foolish - and jaco-ish...)
- a 5-str. SRX355: I bought it when forced to get the fifth string for a pop music job; great for the price, I played a lot thru different touring amps always getting a good sound; well-built (although made in Indonesia) and easy to play; I made a fusion cd with it just plugged into the mixer; what can I say about it: never a problem, but somewhat lacking of definite personality;
Anyway, still an Ibanez fan since the mid-80's.

New at the forum, relatively new player (little over a year now), and brand new owner of an SR505. This is my first five-string, and I can't put it down.

No pix yet (no working camera), but it looks the same as all of the other 505s. :)

Ok, so you'd be a good person to ask then... Aside from the maple top on the 700 series, what differences are there between those and the 500's?

As far as I can tell, bodies and necks are same material, pickups are same, hardware is the same... Is it just the maple top that raises the price $200?

Yes, the flamed maple top is the only difference but it is so damn beautiful, the pics on the net do not do it any justice...
